"This house is exactly as described. Room for 8 (if 2 are thin and short or are children). The host is very communicative and helpful. The check in and check out process is very easy. There are games in the basement and the host has a whole shed of snorkels, fins, chairs, beach equipment, etc. Really great if you've come from far and obviously couldn't pack your own.Why this house might not be for you: it is rural. If you want to go to Kona it's 1 to 1 1/2 hours away. Volcanoes NPS is about 2 hours away. If you are looking for restaurants or activities, you will be doing a lot of driving. Except for a few beaches, most of them are a drive too because you're on a mountain...it's a slow, curvy ride everywhere.If you are a nervous driver or get carsick, this is not for you. The road is steeped and very curvy. My family doesn't get sick...until our last day. But it was fun to see the mongooses and wild pigs in the road. If you like long, hot showers, this is not for you. There is little water in this area...you can't drill a well into volcanic rock and there's no public water. So you are taking short showers as the host requests. Also, I don't think I ever had a HOT shower. Even if I insisted on taking a 2-minute shower before my kids, the water would get warm (I always describe it as "llama spit") but never hot. "

"This entire experience was nothing short of amazing. At first I was apprehensive to live completely off the grid but after staying here I would definitely do it again. When we first arrived the host met us, gave us an entire tour of his property, including his beautiful animals as well as explaining what it’s like to live off grid. Made us feel right at home as if we had been friends a long time. The home was cozy, it does get a little cold so be prepared. The grill and fire pit was a nice touch in the evening. We only stayed one night and wish we had stayed longer. "

"The host and hostess have put together a true paradise. The grounds are seemingly cared for by master gardeners, the flaura is superb. The yurts are the best sleeping environment, with natural white noise. The convenience of being away but near was excellent. My host and hostess even alerted me to the volcano episodes so I was able to see first hand Pele's fire in Kilauea Crater. I cannot wait for my next adventure here. Mahalo isn't enough. WOW! "

"What a great place to stay and experience during our first trip to Hawaii. The cottage dome was such a relaxing environment with beautiful foliage and fruit trees. The dome had everything essential for us. Would hope to stay again next time."

"Beautiful & peaceful location on the big island away from the busier areas. Our host was very welcoming and always made sure we had everything we needed. We really enjoyed falling asleep to the sounds of a crackling fire every night. Large house with everything we needed and a very unique private yard setting."

"12 glorious days of sun, fishing, utter relaxation, and an 800 foot lava fountain to put the cherry on top! Hale Hokulani was equipped with everything we needed. View is breathtaking & the hubby enjoyed catching our dinner right outside. All the sliding glass doors and ceiling fans keeps the house nice and cool. There was an internet outage that covered a large portion of the island and Daniel was great about keeping us updated on the status. You are about an hour from Kona & two hours from Hilo. Perfect if you want to do some day trips. Besides the lava tower, watching our niece's halau win top honors at Merrie Monarch made the trip priceless! Mahalo Daniel, we will be back.
