A night in

I loved Matera and this place!! It was a magical place!! Breakfast and service were superb!! They help me transport my luggage so that I don’t have to walk with it through rocky roads.

We loved our spa cave room at Thymus. It had a pool and a Turkish steam bath. The room accommodated four easily and was very clean and well appointed. The staff was wonderful and the breakfast was excellent. We would stay again and highly recommend to anyone. Matera is a unique place and this is a one of a kind, top tier property.

Thymus Residence is a unique and charming hotel. The hostess met us with a warm welcome and the hotel was exactly as we imagined - a charming, high end, cave experience. In the heart of the Sassi and close walking distance to one-of-a-kind sites. The rooms were very nice, the food delicious. I would definitely stay again!!

What an unbelievable hotel with the most exceptional hostess! Apart from the pain of not being able to park, this stay was an absolute highlight. The beauty and Magrath of Matera is matched beautifully by this hotel. We were lucky enough to stay in the suite with its own personal grotto pool and spa …. Unbelievable! The people at this place are sooo lovely and sooo helpful. The cave room was well appointed although bed squeaks when moving in it. The people made this place a lovely cave to stay at. Can not recommend them more.

The hotel room was inside a cave. Completely renovated, clean and very memorable! The Thymus is conveniently located. Walking distance to all of the sites and restaurants. The Sassi is a vey interesting and unique place. The hotel staff helped us with arrangements and reservations for a tour and restaurants.

Great (modernized) cave stay in Matera.

Loved the hotel. Very caring and helpful managers and staff. Beautiful room, well equipped. Modern within the cave setting. Great breakfast- Matera has the best bread (and the light ricotta with fig syrup - amazing). Convenient location to everything (but note- parking is outside the old city for all hotels and a bit of a challenge to find).

The resort Thymus is exceptionally unique. Gorgeous rooms in the Matera sassi grotte. Perfectly restored with all amenities. A unique experience. Perfect location , unique place to stay

We had an exceptional stay from start to finish !!! Such a unique place to stay we loved everything about it. The receptionist who checked us in Bora, was very welcoming, informative and helpful even though she'd only been working there for 4 days. The room was fabulous, cosy and warm after a long day out in the cold and pouring rain , perfect to come back to where we ordered takeaway pizza to have with the complimentary bottle of wine we'd been left as a gift.The next morning we all enjoyed our breakfast and our hosts were very hospitable. We would highly recommend staying here 100%
