Our room furnishing was basic but very clean and big enough for us and our 2 dogs.
The water pressure in the shower wasn’t great but plenty of hot water.
The staff were great and the food was excellent

This hotel is okay, but the rooms are old and could do with an update.
The staff were very good and helpful.
Be carful when you book this hotel, we actually wanted to be in the Buccleuch hotel in Moffatt, but booked this one instead, apparently a common mistake made by many.
Very helpful friendly staff but hotel so old its rooms need upgrading therefore didnt feel it was worth the money. Lovely place but nothing to do!! No pubs or shops!! Obviously not the hotels fault but beacuse of this felt alot of money for a mediocre (but very clean) room in a village where there is nothing!
Really helpful and friendly staff, but the room was POOR. Very tired room and hotel. I had a Guinness and a burger for dinner which was good. But the room was draughty and in poor condition. I slept in my socks and tracksuit bottoms!!!
Breakfast was good but so uncomfortable as it was freezing room temperature.
Do t be fooled by the official images in app for this hotel. They must have been taken years ago.
The building was clean and well kept… EXCEPT FOR THE ROOM! There was NO air circulation whatsoever! We reported it at supper and asked for a fan because the window was NOT OPENABLE not even a bit! We were told no fans available. We were NOT offered any compensation, not a different room, or money back. We were told that the room was reported unfit a couple of weeks before we were put in there. It should not be let out! We were in room 15 at top floor! NOT good when you have a dog to take out! I had always wanted to stay there but no more. This was during a heatwave of 20c at night! Food was GREAT, Service was friendly except for the ‘death trap’ they put us in and we are in our 70s! Hallway’s were cool due to open windows but we weren’t sleeping in the hall! JEYS were hard to fit and unlock the door from outside! Room was lovely. I wet a cold towel in cold water and used it like a blanket. My partner wool up every hour from the sweltering heat and no NO air circulation. It was like being in a concrete box! Breakfast was also Great! ABSOLUTELY NO COMPENSATION, NO CHANGE OF ROOM WAS OFFERED. I didn’t ask because I was waiting and expecting something to be offered! Even my little dog was struggling with the heat and no air circulation. I expected a pleasant night’s stay and almost booked two nights! So very GLAD I DIDN’T!!!
Gardens very well kept a pleasure to sit out and relax. Food very good, the ham hock terine starter was great. Sasha our waitress serving breakfast was really lovely, just a glow about her. The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were lovely.

Clean but dated accommodation
We stayed for one night for a nearby wedding. The room was dated and tired, but clean. Breakfast took a while and wasn't great. There was only one waitress doing everything. The breakfast food quality wasn't great and everything was very greasy. I couldn't eat it.
Quiet, friendly old road house. The staff were helpful and made you feel welcomed. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent. Would come back again. If you have time St. Cuthbert’s Way hike is close by and is a beautiful walk along the river, especially in May.

A charming little hotel with excellent service, brilliant staff and superb food! Dinner and breakfast were first class. The room was a little bit tired but from looking at the photos a lot of the other rooms have obviously had an upgrade. Would definitely use again.
Food was fabulous - breakfast superb and great dinners!
Only slight suggestion - skylight in Room #19 very dirty - would have been great it is was clean. But that is just a minor element in what was overall a wonderful stay!
Thank you!

To say it's 4 star is a bit much probably struggling to get workers big crack in the bath some lights didn't work don't expect WiFi in your room it says it's wired who brings a wire with them !!!! Still a nice place to stay
We have to say, that there were a few minor things, as in we wanted a twin room and initially got a king room. I don't know his name but the whole team were so lovely, responded quickly in providing complimentary drinks even when we hadn't complained. We thought that your team were exceptional.. thank you

Buccleuch Stay
Stayed for 2 nights. Both of us infirm but no offer of help with luggage. Breakfasts were average. We had one dinner but it was not very good. Wouldn’t recommend the food. Only a skylight in our room so no view other than sky. 1 waitress was very cheery and helpful, the rest gave the impression that they were doing a job without much enthusiasm.
