Such a beautiful place
We knew very little about the area when we booked but were attracted by the unique character of the property and proximity to Toulouse airport for convenient flights. It was much better than anticipated.
The location is remote and yet not very far at all from the autoroute and all the services of Castelnaudary. Set in completely unspoilt countryside, the birdsong all around the property and the amazing range of wildlife - all kinds of butterflies and songbirds, falcons, hare, deer - was a real delight.
The property is very well maintained and yet has a great air of history about it with lots of lovely furniture and plentiful kitchen equipment to cater for even large family gatherings. It really has the feel of a much-loved family retreat. The pool has full sunshine all day long but is totally secluded. There are a number of wooden decking terraces so you can choose your location for eating out or relaxing in full sun or shade throughout the day. There are lovely views to the local hill-top village of Mireval-Lauragais and the surrounding hills with the sweet sound of the church bells marking the passing time.
The historic wonder of Carcassonne is less than an hour away and the cross-country route takes you through some beautiful countryside with bean fields, sunflowers and vineyards with wine tasing available. There is a lovely bakery/tea room at the next village of Fendeille.
Our host, Jean, was very helpful.
