If you’re looking for a luxury experience, keep driving. If you’re looking for an adventure survival challenge, the Days Inn in Starkville, Mississippi might be right up your alley.
From the moment we walked in, it felt less like a hotel and more like the set of a low-budget horror movie. The cracks around the door were so large that I half expected a family of raccoons to check in without a reservation. The smell in the room hit us like a freight train, and the bed was so hard I’m pretty sure it was poured from concrete.
Cleanliness appeared to be more of a suggestion than a requirement. Dirty towels were already decorating the room when we arrived, and the roaches seemed much more comfortable there than we were. At least they looked like repeat customers.
The fold-out bed was a masterpiece of neglect—rusty, filthy, and possibly old enough to qualify for historical preservation. Sleeping on it felt like losing a fight with a shopping cart.
The refrigerator didn’t work, which was unfortunate because my drinks were warmer than the room’s welcome. The phone didn’t work either, so if we needed help, I guess we were expected to send smoke signals.
The surrounding area added a nice touch of suspense. Every trip to the parking lot felt like the opening scene of a true crime documentary.
Overall, this stay had everything: broken appliances, mystery odors, uninvited insect roommates, and a bed that doubled as a chiropractic challenge. If you’re cons"
