Beautiful base for walking, swimming and relaxing

La Casèla is a 17th century stone house which we refurbished for our family in 2002-3 and to which we return each year. It is set on the edge of a friendly, small hamlet (Mons) which nestles on the side of Mont Caroux. The scenery is beautiful - vineyards line the valley, chestnut forest flanks the slopes which rise to the heather-covered mountain top. The house is perfect for exploring the area on foot, or as a base to enjoy swimming in nearby rivers and gorges, canoeing, riding, cycling on the long distance cycle path along the valley or mountain biking for the more adventurous, or venturing further afield to the beach or wine-tasting tours.

The house is very comfortable inside: the bedrooms and bathroom are light and pretty and the kitchen is very well equipped. The living room is spacious with a smart TV, sofa and chairs for relaxing and a wood burning stove for colder times. There is plenty of outside space for sunbathing and relaxing - either on the terraces or in the garden.

Mons La Trivalle is a small community in the Hérault. The ancient part of the village is called Mons and it is located very close (1km) to the beautiful Gorges d'Heric. This is where our house, La Casèla, is located and there is a lovely footpath straight from the house through chestnut woods to the Gorges, where you can swim, rock climb or hike. The environment is very tranquil and the perfect location for a family holiday. At the bottom of the valley (5 minute walk) is La Trivalle, where you find a bar, baker, grocery shop and restaurant. There is also a long distance, traffic-free cycle route through the village extending for 30km in either direction.

The river Orb runs through the bottom of the valley and provides wonderful opportunities for canoeing, swimming and sunbathing.

All in all the house is a great location for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday with good access to outdoor activities. In addition, the house is very comfortable and if you don't fancy going out at all, the terraces and garden provide the perfect location for reading and relaxing.

Beautiful, cozy maison de village
We (family of 5) stayed for 5 days in this lovely home, with plans to discover the parks of the Haut-Languedoc. The house itself was beautifully renovated, very clean and well-equipped - we lacked for nothing in terms of cooking, relaxing and sleeping. The beds were very comfortable, the bathroom is nice and large, and the selection of books - nonfiction, folio, fiction, children's... - is more than large enough to keep everyone entertained without screens! We took advantage of the location of the gite to walk to the Gorges d'Heric, and within a short drive were able to visit other spectacular hiking trails and the Voie Verte (we didn't bring our bikes, but there's a bike rental spot in the village). All in all, a wonderful, cozy, charming home in a nature-lover's paradise that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Lovely Mons
We spent two wonderful weeks in this tiny medieval hamlet. Nightingales called constantly outside. The village store, down the hill, was remarkably well stocked; the bar a welcoming place. It was nice to meet Lilli the day we arrived, who was very helpful. We had wonderful walks, both from the house itself, or short drives away. The characterful house is spacious, the beds are comfortable; there is constant hot water. Well stocked kitchen; fantastic amount of books and maps. Choice of sun or shade on the terraces. Utter peace. The only thing we did start to miss after a week or so was a TV.

Hillside heaven
This is a lovely spacious and comfortable old house with real character, located on the hillside above Mons. It is a great place to explore the area either by walking out of the front door or hiring a bike in the village. There are many places to swim in the afternoon either In the Gorge d’Heric or in the rivers. It is really worth getting up early and climbing up to the viewpoint on the Caroux. For anyone still feeling adventurous it is possible to walk back to the house through the hills via Douch and Heric. We had a wonderful holiday, and having such a lovely place to stay was a big part of that.

"A home from home"
Thankfully I'd done my homework & with Lilli's excellent guide we were able to pinpoint the exact location of this beautiful gem. At the end of your journey you're just looking to sitting down, relaxing & start taking it all in. "La Casela" has exactly all that. The home feels warm, its exactly how it should be decorated & very well equipped & kept. The walk from La Trivalle is challenging but if you're a walker it's good exercise. We stayed in a very warm period so careful management of the balance between letting air in & keeping heat out was needed. This was our second stay in the region so allowed us much more scope to explore. The local community are welcoming & very friendly despite our poor command of French we were helped along well. Overall a fantastic holiday in a beautiful location. Thank you for sharing your fabulous home.

Lovely, lovely.
We and our little dog had a great time. The cottage is sympathetically restored, comfortable, charming and well equiped; except for no ice making facility (G&Ts). Lillie was very helpful. The village and area is beautiful and interesting with much to see and do. The food, wine and people are all great.

Very Nice
It is in a beautiful area and views from upstairs windows are particularly nice. Walking to the home from where you park the car is a bit of an effort but that's part of the overall charm. The home was very clean, there was a welcoming bottle of wine, the internet was good, the bed was comfortable and the home is spacious and authentic. Owner responds quickly via electronic communication. Excellent centrally located area for hiking. There is no freezer, not even a tiny one, in the small refrigerator. Not an huge problem, but I wish we had known ahead of time before shopping for groceries. A late, but final disappointment was that when we paid the required 300£ security deposit it was US, $397.33. When the 300£ deposit was credited back the £ had dropped and we got only $366--a direct additional $33 charge. Ah Brexit. Definitely recommend.

A very special place to stay
We were looking for an old country cottage with character and ambience where we could have a few days rest and relaxation with our two dogs. We found exactly that! The house is a couple of hundred metres from the Church car park and up a winding stone path. It oozes history but also is well equipped and comfortable. It is a lovely place just to BE.. We loved sitting on the spacious terrace in the September sunshine, watching the dogs stretched out on the cool flagstones after leaping over the stone walls and playing with the autumn leaves on the walk to the gorge . The views from the upstairs windows are stunning. The village shop ( 20 minute walk) is brilliant and the cafe bar very friendly. We will be back!

Nous avons passé une semaine délicieuse dans cette maison authentique décorée avec goût. Les propriétaires ont été très disponibles lorsque nous les avons sollicités. Le village est calme, et très joli. Nous espérons y retourner un jour.

a so lovely house
