Saturnia Tuscany Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"I booked this hotel as part of a splurge on a milestone birthday vacation in Italy, as a solo female traveler. It was the first true vacation I’ve taken in over five years (travel for work usually). This was worth every minute & penny. In terms of staff: if I could leave 10 or 100 stars, I would (and am not prone to hyperbole). Carlo, the manager is amazing. He offered me options to get there, to suit my budget and preference. On the last day, Carlo was a hero. When the (separate) online booking for a transfer (I had made myself) cancelled, Carlo found me a driver last minute & at reasonable price. This feels like staying with family, with many of the guests local Italians, and is the *opposite* of a tourist trap. The “room with a view” was gorgeous. The restaurant has an absolutely incredible view. The food was superb. The servers remember your preferences day to day. Very personalized. There is a spa on site and a large lap pool with a 360 view. Bring a swim cap or buy one there (it is mandatory) One caution if you do not rent a car: plan ahead as there are only a few private driver options. Even getting to the thermal falls takes planning as it is a bit of a long walk back but only 5-10 minutes by car. Best to plan ahead and book all car needs through the property. They communicate via WhatsApp very efficiently. Some reviews claim “old” but I disagree. While not the Four Seasons, has country charm. Only negative: no coffee maker or iron in the room (that I saw)."

"The room was clean but a little tired. There were also lots of tiny ants in both rooms and above our master bed. The patio was nice with a view. The air conditioning was very weak and no fans. There is only a bath tub with a shower to spray yourself sitting down! The breakfast was nice and included but the young lady in the breakfast room making the pancakes was not very friendly or welcoming. The pool was good but lots of flies around so we just went back to the room. It was nice for the night but I wouldn’t run back. But we loved visiting with the tiny momma cat with her three kittens."

"The hotel is in a fabulous location to explore the beach area, the old town and all that is on offer. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was very comfortable. We had a balcony with a view and a place to dry our towels outside. Breakfast had a lot of choices - sweet and savoury. Very satisfying and again, nothing was too much for the staff. They were lovely. I would definitely stay again."

"Somehow I missed that this was a camp ground when I was booking. However, if I was expecting camping, it would be great. It is well shaded right by a beautiful beach. The pool was smaller than expect, but I enjoyed the water aerobic class in the evening. We had a superior tent. It was stifling hot inside when we arrived. It took some time to cool off. The cooling system was not great. The staff were very pleasant. There was a great outdoor cooking area. Overall, I would command this place for a camping getaway."

"Great location if wanting to explore the many beaches, we did many seaside drives, staff very friendly, absolutely love that I was able to text back-and-forth with the front desk with any questions or concerns on the WhatsApp. They helped us get contact information for the nearby horse stables and also offer a shuttle service for us to take the shuttle to the train to go to Rome.We traveled with a two year-old and a four-year-old -property was safe and well maintained for them. they could essentially run freely. Would love if they could improve the breakfast, personally I would like more fresh fruit, bean and veggie dishes. They do have a washer available however it is a long cycle and only one washer available so if another guest has the key checked out, you have to wait. Again, staff was very friendly and attentive. Location worked very well for our needs cost was very affordable other guest staying at the hotel seemed like locals and that this is where they go for vacation, all being very friendly. Our apartment was very comfortable."

"The staff was very kind, professional, friendly, and accommodating. Right out of a Tuscan rom-com, the hotel has a beautiful entry and garden and is in a gorgeous Tuscan setting. Ask for the room with the patio. It was great for morning coffee. The town of Castel del Piano was lively with locals in the piazza and shop keepers sweeping to make clean and welcoming store fronts."
