"As a hotel geared to convention business, the Spartanburg Marriott has an enormous number of well-designed event spaces, beautiful grounds, and an unusually large array of attractive indoor and outdoor gathering or "refuge" spaces. It's restaurant and bar areas are inviting and there are amenities one doesn't generally expect in a chain hotel. The maid service also was first rate. My room was quite comfortable and attractive, but I did have some quibbles. For a hotel that styles itself a 4-star destination, the room's furnishings (beds excluded) seemed a bit threadbare, with the wood dinged up in numerous places and the dresser/fridge cabinet also had ill-fitting drawers. The night table, frankly, was shabby. The same dings and scratches on wood furniture be found throughout the otherwise impressive lobby areas -- surprising in a hotel of this sort. Now, one recognizes budgetary and staff limitations, but still, some of these problems could be corrected inexpensively, though it would be time-consuming."
