Magnificent home, stunning 180-degree views, extensive gardens, & total serenity. Complete luxury: hot tub, fireplace, outdoor dining, hammock chairs, spa-quality baths w/ jacuzzi & shower w/ 5 heads, & gourmet kitchen. Near Vermont's premier skiing, hiking, & outdoor adventures in majestic mountains. Perfect for summer vacations, stunning autumn foliage, & ski retreats. COMPLETE COVID-19 CLEANING
Luxuriate in the serene elegance of the Above the Clouds Main House -- Located at the end of a quarter-mile-long driveway that passes through birch and hemlock woods you'll find yourself perched at the top of the world overlooking a glorious 180+degree mountain vista. Other than the adjacent Above the Clouds Guesthouse (located across the driveway but placed so both homes have privacy), the only signs of life are lights twinkling across the valley at night and the wildlife that shares the land.
Pamper yourself in the spa-like showers (one with 5 shower heads!), 2-person jacuzzi, or outdoor hot tub facing majestic western Mad River Valley views. Prepare a gourmet meal in a cook’s kitchen outfitted with modern appliances and a gas grill on the side patio. Relax in a unique hammock chair while watching a wood fire in the fireplace; stroll through the extensive gardens; take a nap in a hammock in the trees; eat blueberries fresh off the bush; relax on the deck at sunset while sipping wine and watching hummingbirds wiz by...
Though Above the Clouds is close to many of Vermont’s premier tourist destinations, many find hibernating in it's mountain top beauty all they need!
Huge windows with stunning views grace every room in this 2500+ s.f. house and make the boundaries between the glorious outdoors and sumptuous indoors hard detect. With two sleeping wings (each with an en-suite, luxurious bathroom), two couples or a family of five can visit by day yet have complete privacy at night. Two more people can sleep in the cozy upper living room on a queen bed that pulls out of the leather sofa. Every room in the house is enhanced by luxurious fixings like: cherry bedroom furnishings, sheepskin rugs, TempurPedic mattresses, natural fiber throws, leather furnishings, down blankets and pillows, etc.
The kitchen is a chef’s dream with a gas range, huge pantry decked out with many helpful appliances, generous one-of-a-kind granite counters, an array of spices. The delectables you create can be eaten on the patio table that seats up to 8, in the dining room on the table that can seat up to 10, or in the cozy octagonal breakfast nook. Perhaps the best part is that there is an amazing view from every seat in the house.
For your entertainment, the 65" Samsung The Frame smart TV displays photos (most of which are nature shots that were taken by Bob) when not in use has access to most major streaming services as well as Samsung's television channels. There is a Bose bluetooth speaker for your digital music. For some old-fashioned fun, there is a generous store of books, puzzles, and board games.
The gardens are as glorious as the inside of the house. You'll want to wander and enjoy the extensive perennial gardens, relax by the frog pond with fountain, play games on the lawns, or head off to hike on our 20 acres and adjacent trails.
Both houses are powered by the sun and we offer a complimentary Level 2 EV charging station. Heated garage space available for bookings of one month or more.
Up to 2 dogs may be permitted. Prior approval and a $250 pet cleaning fee are required.
*Note: Some of the furniture and art has changed from what is in the pictures of the living room and dinning room. Everything is still luxurious! Just a note as we work to update our listing photos.
The Above the Clouds Guesthouse can also be rented on a stand-alone basis or you can rent both homes to use for larger groups. For more information about the guesthouse, see the VRBO listing for Dramatic Views at the Above the Clouds Guesthouse. You can also find links to these listings by clicking my host picture.

Truly one of the best rental experiences of our lives. The views are incredible, the house is immaculate, if we could have stayed here forever we would've! Thank you for sharing your lovely home, Marianne and family, we will definitely be back!
This is my second stay with this host and first stay in the main house. With a family of four we generally choose rental homes and never in our travels have we ever stayed with a more generous and well appointed home. The property and location are fantastic already and the views incredible, but it is the care and thoughtfulness of the hosts which make this property a standout. My wife comments that it is clear we are staying in someone's dream home and its true. Thank you Bob and Marianne!
Although there are plenty of activities nearby (skiing, restaurants), there is no reason to leave this wonderful house. Bring food and hunker down by the fire. Take a break in the hot tub and ogle the remarkable views. The hosts have thought of everything, which made for a lovely stay.
From all the vrbo houses we have rented, this house is in our top 5 list. The house is perfect, has everything you need and then some…. And Marianne definitely deserves the title of super/premier host! A storm was predicted while we stayed at the house & the official vrbo communication platform was down and Marianne got out of her way to get in touch with us to make sure we were OK. While the family went skiing, I stayed at the home with our dog and I enjoyed the fire place and hot tub! The views from the house are spectacular! If you see availability at this house, book it, you won’t regret it!
My wife and I along with our 11yo daughter came up for an end of the season snowboarding trip and this property did not disappoint. We frequent VRBO properties in VT almost every weekend in the winter and none have even come close to this property. Everything that you could possibly need it s here, I mean EVERYTHING! The place was spotless the layout was perfect the way the bedrooms are on opposite ends making it very private. The conditions up there were pretty washed out due to a week of rain so the roads were a bit tricky but I was already prepped by the Marianne. We were surprised with a ft of snow overnight that caused a power outage for most of Warren VT. The are batter operated candles for ambient lighting throughout the house as well as an abundant supply of flashlights and lanterns. The radiant heating kept the house was despite the power being out but there is a wood burning stove if needed. To sum it up this place should be used as a model for other VRBO properties. Marianne is an amazing host, we were on zero miles until empty and ask the gas stations had no power so she started calling around for us to see if any stations had power. The only reason that I would not recommend this property is because I want to make sure that it is available for us next season!! Marianne, thank you so much for your hospitality and sharing your home with us and we are looking forward to coming back.
We had a delightful stay at this magical property nestled in the mountains! The house itself, and the surrounding grounds/gardens, were immaculate and wonderfully appointed. The kitchen was well equipped -- with sharp knives! The owners have even left little labels around the house to instruct guests how to operate the various appliances, fans, etc. The views can't be surpassed -- we spent hours just watching the sun go down behind the mountains. There is no AC in the house but this was only uncomfortable for one day of surprisingly high humidity. We slept at night listening to bullfrogs croaking in the adorable little pond beneath the bedroom window.
I can't say enough good things about our stay at Above the Clouds. Marianne is one of the most attentive owners I have ever worked with, before, during and after our stay. She truly wants to make sure your visit is the best it can possibly be! The home was not only beautiful, but it was incredibly clean, organized and well cared for. Nothing was overlooked - it was truly set up to offer guests exactly what they needed before they even realized they needed it. If we are ever back in this part of Vermont again, we will definitely be staying at Above the Clouds!
We stayed at this property over the long holiday MLK weekend and it was truly amazing. Everything was incredible - the small welcome gifts the owners left for us, the detailed instructions on anything we needed help with, the hot tub (with slippers!), and all the space in the kitchen and dining/living areas! The view is worth the visit on it's own, especially while soaking in the hot tub! The beds were all very comfy, and heated bathroom floors - true luxury! The distance from Sugarbush was fine, and the drive brings you by markets and restaurants so it's perfect. This will be the first property we look to rent whenever we return to the Mad River Valley!!!
This house has It all. A fireplace, a Jacuzzi, comfy beds and everything needed to cook a gourmet meal in the spacious kitchen. To top it all off it was the cleanest place my wife and I have ever stayed in. Waitsfield, Waterbury, Stowe, Montpelier and Burlington all within a short driving distance. Marianne was a sweetheart too. We can't wait to go back.
