Stumbled upon this lovely place on a weekend drive. Topsmead State Forest includes the summer home of Edith Morton Chase, daughter of Harry Sabin Chase the 1st President of Chase Brass and Copper Company. There are lovely gardens surrounding the home which serve as host to many weddings and photo shoots.

Hidden Valley Preserve was a nice surprise. Only been there a couple times but found it had a lot to offer-lots of critters (frogs, fish, snakes, turtles, birds), a suspension bridge over the brook, easy to more challenging trails. The best part was the old quartz mine, that was in use from 1800-1915. The trail becomes a sparkling white, a mix of fairytale and snow storm.
