Darrs Beach Cottage

Our calendar is updated in real-time & our nightly rates are accurately displayed. Simply enter your desired dates and click 'Book Now!'

Come visit the sleepy little town of Neskowin and stay at this charming, laid-back one bedroom cottage. You and your family can spend relaxing days lounging out on the wrap-around deck, walking down to the beach, and enjoying the slower pace of life on the Oregon coast.

Enter through a vintage blue door and into the homey and open living room, dining room, and kitchen area. There are tall, slanted wood ceilings, comfortable furniture, and a wood burning fireplace to keep you warm and toasty on chilly coast nights. Just pop the popcorn and gather the family around for a night of board games or watching DVDs. There's even a DVD library if you forget to pack your favorites from home.

The cheery and eclectic kitchen is well-stocked with a refrigerator, oven and stovetop, microwave, tea kettle, and coffeemaker -- everything you need to enjoy a great meal. There isn't a dishwasher but hey, even doing dishes can be fun when you're on vacation!

You can savor your meals on a one-of-a-kind bottle-cap mosaic table designed by the owner and her grandchildren! The dining room area also has large picture windows for great views of the scenic, quiet neighborhood. There's also a breakfast bar with four stools for grabbing a quick bite to eat in the morning before heading out for a day of coastal adventures.

The bedroom has a queen sized bed, reading lamps, and cozy bedding. A twin rollaway bed is stored in the closet, and can easily be set up in the living room by the full-sized sofa bed. Two adults and up to three children can very comfortably enjoy this family getaway. You'll even find an outdoor shower so you can rinse your feet clean after a day at the beach!

The bathroom is bright and colorful, with handmade tiles and custom artwork. A roomy bathtub is the perfect size for a relaxing bubble bath: just lay back, have a glass of wine, and admire the bathroom's crafty charm. Right across from the bathroom is a high efficiency washer and dryer so you can keep everyone in clean and warm socks after a day playing in the sand.

As cute and quirky as the inside of this delightful cottage is, you'll find yourself spending a lot of time outside! Right out the door is a wonderful deck with comfy chairs, a picnic table, and fire pit for toasting marshmallows. There's also a quirky birdhouse collection and lots of lush green grass for kids. The fenced back yard is a very nice place to turn the kids loose to explore and play while preparing dinner on the gas grill. You'll find that this laid back community is really all about family fun. After dinner, head out on a walk around the neighborhood or spend the afternoons riding bikes down the quiet, residential streets.

If you take a stroll just two blocks west, you'll find yourself on the peaceful, uncrowded beach with miles and miles of coast to explore. Take your shoes and socks off and walk along the surf while you hunt for shells and pieces of agate. For golfers, the Neskowin Golf Course is mere blocks from the house, and for art lovers, the Hawk Creek Gallery is also nearby.

Many other shopping, entertainment, and dining options are plentiful in the nearby towns of Pacific City, about 15 minutes north and Lincoln City, 20 minutes to the south. Back in Neskowin, local favorite Hawk Creek Cafe is re-opening in July 2013 and located only blocks from the house. Darrs Beach Cottage is a special home base for enjoying this unassuming little beach town, perfect to help you slow down and enjoy some time together as a family!

It's a quirky place. It was as described on VRBO. The location was just steps away from the beach. There was plenty of room. The yard was lovely We will for sure be back!

There was a lot of unique nick knacks inside the property and out. This is a fun place for kids and adults who enjoy novelty. The property had a musty odor upon entry and there were some stains on the pillowcases.

Nice place but needs some love
Overall it was a good spot for a weekend getaway but probably not for a longer stay. Some thoughts: Pros:location was amazing. Price was a bargain. The theme was fun and you could tell the owners put a lot of effort into it. The house was very clean when we got there. Cons: like prior reviewers said the place could use some TLC. The fridge still leaks, the washer/dryer still has the same issues. This listing would be an easy 5 star if those things were addressed.

Cute, but desperately needs work
Very cute neighborhood, loved that part. However…. This home is in need big need of a face lift. The fridge has marker written on it for instructions, with a water dropping pan inside of it where the fridge leaks. There is marker written on so many things in the house in case of no hot water, the long list of issues with the washer and dryer… etc. The washer and dryer aren’t worth the hassle. Overall, it needs updates before I would consider this a good place to rent to folks. It is advertised in a way that is a bit misleading. When I am paying this much money I want ZERO issues. Instead, there was a bunch of odd things. The closet of towels were legit all wet and mildew smelling. They were folded away damp… No pepper or salt, there was a coffee maker and no coffee filters? (I left some). Yes there are pots and pans, but common household things in a kitchen any home would need ? No… prepare to buy everything you’d need for your home kitchen just to stay a few nights. Needs: new fridge, new washer and dryer, and common household kitchen supplies… Very clean and safe though.

This property was just okay - the floors and bed were fine, but the refrigerator in the kitchen was functioning but leaked so much that there was pan in the fridge with a sharpie not that instructed the renter to empty and replace if full and no crisper bins - none. The washer and dryer also had sharpie notes that explained blamed their condition on previous renters. No hanging space - none - and sand in the drawers so we lived out of suitcases for a month. For the price, I wasn't expecting perfect, but functioning would have been nice. The thing that really burned me up was that we called and called and called and begged someone to help us with the connection from the dvd to the remote - there was something missing and we couldn't get anyone to come out - they just blamed us for being technologically stupid. We were there a week and we knew it was going to rain, so we brought DVDs - So that was a frustration. They kept promising that they would come but no one did. I will NEVER rent from Vacasa ever again! Even asked for a partial refund with NO response - bad business to deal with.

Family Cabin, Not Vacation Cabin
During our stay we minimized time indoors. There were cobwebs on walls, ceilings, and inside the dish cupboard (look up). The living room furniture was old and not inviting to sit on. The refrigerator still leaks even though Vacasa said last year that it was to be repaired. The tub enclosure is falling apart. There are stuffed toys hanging over the toilet—I cannot even imagine how germy they are. The deck and yard were lovely, so we tried to stay outside. It is clear this is a much loved family cabin, but the charm is lost amidst the clutter and appliances in need of repair.

My 4 year old loved it!
First, I want to say the location was great and the backyard was perfect. A beautiful, blooming garden, a fire pit (BYO wood and matches) and plenty of seating. And so many birds! I really wanted to like the quirkiness of this rental, but it ended up feeling over the top, cluttered and claustrophobic. Our two night stay was plenty of time and usually I don’t want to leave the coast! My four year old loved it though - but I’m very glad I prepared her for the pirate. He’s huge. Other things: The kitchen is adequate, the bed-linens are shabby, the shower has great hot water but is (as other reviewers mentioned) super low. Sit down to wash your hair and it’s great with the colorful tile! There is a generous sharing of sand toys, good parking, and huge windows (don’t expect dark rooms for sleep). Didn’t use the washer/dryer or electronics. Fridge space is limited by a cake pan on the top shelf catching drips. Cobwebs aplenty but otherwise felt clean. Check-out was ambiguous as we received absolutely no instructions on what the expectations are. My kid wants to know when we are going back, but we will likely choose a different spot in the future.

We enjoyed the location and how clean it was. It was quiet and the amineties were good. What we did not like was how low the toilet was and all the dust and spider webs around the windows. I really hate spiders. since we spent most of our time outside the property I did not have to look for them but their webs showed they were there. We would consider staying there again if the toilet were updated.

Best location
We loved this property and especially the location? The beach in Neskowin is by far the most beautiful, tranquil beach we've been to on the west coast. The cottages around, including this one, are picturesque to say the least. The property is clean and the green space outside is wonderful! Outdoor shower with hot water! Everything was perfect. I do wish Vacasa would provide things like coffee and salt but whatever. Great little cafe too.

Quirky Grandma Cottage
Super close to the beach and the little mercantile, that has an amazing deli. Very spacious. Open and bright. Beautiful backyard / deck space. The big green couch is awesome comfy! Bring a couple extra blankets (the extra ones provided I closet are rough). Kitchen items a little dated and minimal. Bring your own salt and pepper or spices (none provided). Lots of towels and shampoos provided. The Queen bed is comfy. No WiFi … but it’s the beach, so that was ok with me. Lots of personality, lots of little notes of what to do and what not to do, maybe smells like an older beach house (because it is) but overall a really great place to stay. We’d stay again!

Very rustic. No wi-fi. Very close to ocean.
Loved being very close to the ocean. Felt that it needed to be cleaner than it was. Missed having Wi-Fi. But love the porch and the ability to grill and make her own meals. That’s fair

perfectly adequate
the good: the location of this house was perfect. close to the beach and had a nice backyard. the pirate guy was funny, and the kitchen had some cookware. the bad: the house didn’t advertise wifi, but when i got the check in info, it told me how to check and make sure the wifi worked. there was no router anywhere in the house, so no wifi. we had decent cell reception so it was okay. when we arrive, the porch was covered in what looked like colorful orbs. i think they were sensory beads or something, but they were everywhere making the porch unusable and dangerously slippery. the kitchen had some cookware, but the pots and pans felt greasy, like they had only been rinsed. there was also no recycling receptacle to be found. the blankets seemed clean but looked like they had been shoved in a closet for months. the shower head was really low and made showering difficult if you’re over five foot overall we had a good stay and i would probably stay here again, but they definitely need to clean the place a little better and explain the amenities better.

Recommended quirky spot
Interesting place, great location. Very quirky decor, could be overwhelming for some but I found it fascinating. Only problems were the extremely short showerhead (I basically had to do a back bend to wash my hair), and that the cleaning person showed up an hour early at 10am. She said the instructions in the house stating an 11am check out were outdated... but the details listed on this very site and my email confirmation all said 11am, so that should be addressed.

Lovely House w/ some needed upgrades
This was a lovely house with LOTS of character and very close to the beach. It had tons of room to have guests over for a BBQ. It was fully furnished and had most everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and it had lots of extra bedding. It did need some very necessary upgrades. The fridge: froze all our produce and eggs; the main shelf was broken and dumped all our stuff on the floor multiple times.; the top shelf had a very large glass cake pan to collect defrost drippings that took up 1/2 the space of the shelf so we did not have enough room in the fridge to keep all the contents we brought to cook for a weeks stay. The toilet lid came unhinged for at least the 4th time per all the former screw holes. The shower head is very low making it difficult for tall people. While the couches were plentiful they were NOT comfortable. There was some sort of collection units presumably for moisture that gave of the most awful nauseous smell that made it hard for me to sleep and get in and out of bed without making me feel sick. I did not know until I got home that that odor permeated my personal bedding and I could not escape it until I had washed and rewashed my bedding several times. The manager notes asked us to start the laundry if possible noting the presence of laundry soap which the website touted as an amenity... there was NONE there and I had to go buy my own at very elevated prices of a small beachfront town(if i had known I could have brought this from home), plus NO FIRE STARTED supplied for the WONDERFUL FIREPLACE. It was after hours and no stores were open without driving 20 min away. We had to go without a fire until we made this purchase also. We did bring our own firewood from home and left the next renter $45 worth of firewood. YOur WElcome. Once upgrades are made and supplies replaced this will be a super great lil place. Hope this helps and encourages managment to make upgrades.

VRBO requesting review even though I already sent it on 9/26 - proof that there is no communication
I reserved this home on 9/5 for 9/21-24, and included a question to the owner - no response. The next day my family pointed out the realistic, life-size pirate hanging from the LR ceiling, which may be obvious to some, but I definitely had not noticed. Freaked out by the mannequin, I sent a msg via the website to the owner asking if it could be removed for my stay - no response. Assuming something could be worked out, the deadline for a full refund passed. Eventually I sent another request asking about removing the mannequin – no response. I finally called VRBO/Vacasa. I explained the situation, stressing the time had passed for a full refund, and, if it turned out the mannequin could not be removed, I would end up having to pay for a rental I did not want to stay at. I felt this was wrong, someone should have responded to me. Now I would be financially penalized for their failure to respond to my question in a timely manner. Through the course of conversations w/VRBO, I was told the mannequin could not be taken down. I was also told that if, in my initial email asking for the it’s removal, I had said that I would cancel my reservation if it could not be removed, I would have been given a full refund (to me, it would have sounded threatening if I’d said I would cancel if it couldn’t be removed). It also seems my emails were going to a property manager, even though the msgs I sent were through the site’s “ask owner a question.” I was also told the property mgr said it was clear from the website there was a mannequin hanging from the ceiling – clearly it was not, or I would have noticed it. Even to have mentioned it in the property description would have made it evident, but there is no reference to it. I have repeatedly said to VRBO staff I feel this is unfair, I am being penalized by having to pay the full rental cost for a rental I would have cancelled if I’d been contacted in a professional, timely manner and told the mannequin could not be removed. In my third call, I asked for a credit for the amount I’d paid; it was then I was told the property mgr had said, “no refund, no credit.” So, potential renters, beware. First, there is a life-size pirate hanging from the LR ceiling; if that makes you uncomfortable, look elsewhere. Next, do not expect efficient communication; “customer satisfaction” is definitely not on the agenda. This house sat vacant for the days I’d rented. What an eye-opening, expensive, learning experience for me.
