To our wonderful guests, past, present and some future (through this summer 2024),
It has been a long wonderful road through this vacation rental experience. We have become friends with some of you over the years, and welcomed back many of you time and again to one of our Bear Cabins. Some of you we have not met yet , as we will continue to welcome guests until late summer this year.
Twenty-four years ago we first purchased the property that we named Nevada City Retreats, and it is over seventeen years since Papa Bear, Mama Bear and Baby Bear cabins have become full-time vacation rentals. Drue and I have decided to lighten our responsibilities and spend time traveling and pursuing our other interests in this last chapter of our lives, so we are selling the property and hoping to find new owners will love it as much as we have.
We are most appreciative of all our guests and thank you so much for your wonderful comments, respect and support over the years. We hope we have enriched your lives just a bit. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or are interested in discussing a possible purchase. You can reach us through this website.
Wishing you all Happy Trails,
René and Drue

Travel by car to skiing, river or lake kayaking and swimming. There are many bicycle trails through the surrounding hills and plenty of wine tasting venues. Local and out-of-town musicians can be heard almost any night of the week.
Check the Chamber of Commerce web site at the bottom of this page for information on the many special events happening in the area.
Try your hand at gold panning at the Yuba, and visit the Historic Empire Mine. This area is ideal for mountain bikers, kayakers and hikers, and, for those looking for a romantic getaway.
Lake Vera is a small lake surrounded by summer camps and used exclusively by them. ( Our guests have no access.) Our cabins are located on 5 acres next to Camp Augusta. In the summer months (late May to mid August) you can hear 'happy camp sounds' as children enjoy swimming, zip lining and singing around the camp fire, then off to bed by 9:30, quiet hour.
