Location was excellent. Many restaurants and bars within walking distance. Food at the hotel restaurant, Pescadou, was amazing! Would definitely return!
This hotel was very comfortable with great amenities. We loved the rooftop bar! Also it is centrally located with lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance.
Rooms are tastefully decorated and we found the beds to be extremely comfortable. Loved the rooftop deck for pre dinner drinks and sunset and the courtyard with firepit for after dinner corn hole. Had a wonderful stay!
The hotel was in a great location. Walking distance to a lot of attractions and Thames street. Great amenities and it was very clean. Service was excellent.
The room was immaculately clean and had beautiful finishings. It was compact but efficient. The bed was extremely comfortable and made up for the odd bathroom sink situation. The front desk lady named Marina was very kind and helpful. The valet staff were top-notch. We enjoyed the historical vibe at the hotel.
Room was fabulous. Bed comfortable, bathroom was split sink in one area toilet /shower across from sink area.
Lots to walk to nearby, museum, shops, the harbor, a park to walk dog-etc. I really liked that there were several dog friendly places. "Picnic" across from hotel had great breakfast sandwiches, bagel, lattes etc. sand
Beautiful property in a great location. The only negative was the bathroom sink was so small and a shelf placed above it so you could not brush your teeth or wash your face without soaking the floor. Was a bit frustating.
Good location. Bathrooms were way too small. Couldn’t even brush your teeth or turn the water on bc shelf above the sink blocked it. Also had to step over the bed frame to get out of one side of the bed. No space between A/C and end of bed. Use of space not good. Totally over priced for what you get. No water in room, no turn down service, no extra white glove service for price. Bare minimum

The location was great--walking distance to the Newport points of interest. Some areas of the hotel were in better condition than others. The first floor where we stayed had some ceiling tiles missing in the hallway and the visual into the ceiling space was unappealing and caused the hallway to be warm and stuffy. In our room we could hear a constant pounding sound. I called the front desk but the sound never disappeared. The indoor heated pool was nice but sometimes had no towels and often the external door was propped open which felt less secure. Housekeeping did not always refill the coffee pods or towels but were fairly responsive when called. Staff in general was friendly and helpful, and the common areas were comfortable, clean, and aesthetic. Room furnishings were nice although a pullout bed would have been more reasonable for a 3-person room with only 1 bed.
Stayed here before but never again. Hotel is sprawling and our room was at the farthest end of the hallway. Stairs in hallway could not be avoided and moving luggage was a challenge. Freshly renovated but heavy barn door at bathroom could not be moved one inch. Door into room did not close properly and maid left room open after cleaning room. Missed cleaning one day and staff was rude when we asked that the room be cleaned. Building is being refurbished and we had no hot water for two days. Staff was dismissive when we inquired. Problems every day of our 5 day stay. Good location close to mansion and other sights but there are better Newport hotels.
Well, the property is itself as beautiful, the hotel was extremely shortstaffed. I realize it was a holiday weekend with several weddings, but the wait to check in, the response time of staff, was very long. The bathroom sink was tiny and had a shelf above it, making it impossible to brush your teeth or do anything else at the sink. Also, room service dining is a standard at a higher end hotel.
I could not say enough about the Viking hotel in Newport, Rhode Island! My stay was exceptional, the food was off the charts, the accommodations were wonderful, there was just such a wonderful BUZZ going around in the hotel. People were coming for weddings and parties and everybody was so gracious. The shop did not disappoint either. The chocolate croissant, the amazing cappuccino. The highlight was probably when I arrived, and I had the most amazing Barada, oysters, and a glass of rosé. I will be going back for sure, I would like it to be every month!
Don’t waste your money.
Biggest takeaway that match with the previous comments:
Staff is just not good. There is clearly a leadership problem. From the valet, to check-in to the young team serving coffee everyone missed the beat on customer service.
The building needs attention our room was small, the AC did not work and the shower door is broken. The final blow, they overcharged us with fees for food we never ordered.
Was supposed to be in a deluxe room, but the door didn’t work walls were damaged and Paint was chipping. Construction underneath my room woke me several times. When I try to discount the room with the manager, I was disregarded and told to take it up with Expedia. Very disappointed.
I have stayed at Hotel Viking many times over the years and looked forward to seeing the product of their renovations. I was incredibly disappointed as the hotel was updated in a way that made no logical sense. In particular, the bathroom sink was incredibly small and had a shelf above it making it impossible to brush your teeth without hitting your head or spitting on the floor. The door into the room had to be kicked to be opened and required immense strength to reopen once inside. I repeatedly spoke to the front desk, and then the manager. Absolutely nothing was done. Will never go back!
Started at check in. Junior suite w sofa bed. Suite! Funny. No sofa bed. They remodeled six months ago and didn’t update web site. Bathroom reeked of mildew. Phone and lights didn't work. At night you couldn’t see where you were walking. They tried to fix it no joy
Couldn’t call for towels so texted the link they sent to ask for anything you need. Funny. I had to go to front desk, no phone. They said they were too busy and missed my text
Maid came at 3 pm. There were guess getting ready in hallway because they had no mirror in bathroom.
Staff was befuddled. I’ll stop there.
We have been staying at the Hotel Viking for many years now, even had a room block here for our wedding a few years ago. However, this change in ownership gravely disappointed us. The room rates are triple what they used to be, and the “renovations” they did are pretty much lipstick on a pig. The main lobby/restaurants didn’t need to be updated, the cafe stopped selling bagels and their coffees are smaller and overpriced now. Our door handle fell off as we were closing the door and had to switch rooms - we saw two additional rooms with broken handles while there! We stayed there a week - on multiple days there was loud drilling/construction noises coming from above our room. One night we called down for new water glasses, as we had used ours and the cleaning staff hadn’t replaced them in two days - they never showed up with the glasses that night. The beds were hard as rocks, didn’t sleep well. The AC thermostat says “65”, when it’s absolutely not that cold in the room - they provided us a box fan to use at night. Also, the new thermostats are digital LED screens that do not turn off - so it is a bright light all night long. We had to put a towel over it to cover the light, ridiculous no one realized this when designing the rooms. Also, the bathrooms are updated, but the shower door doesn’t stay closed! It is a sliding glass door, when you slide it shut, it just slides back a few inches letting water escape and cold air in. This happened in two different rooms.
