Where to stay in Newport

Well-preserved oval mound that once hosted gladiatorial combat and military processions. This amphitheater was built for the Roman forces at Isca around AD 90 and would have seated around 6000 spectators!

Caerleon

4/5(5 area reviews)

Explore Caerleon's rich history at the National Roman Legion Museum and Roman Baths Museum, or unwind at the Millennium Wildlife Garden. Dine at The Priory or Olde Bull Inn, and easily access Newport and Cwmbran via bus or train.

Caerleon
The coolest "bridge" I have ever "driven" across! Drive aboard and take flight over the River Usk in this 110 year old engineering marvel. Only six of these historic bridges remain in operation, and the Newport Bridge is the longest with a 196m span (645ft).

A modern highway bridge passes nearby, so these days the bridge operates as a novelty. Show up on either side, and the operator will come pick you up! You can also climb the steps and walk across the 54m

Pillgwenlly

If you're spending some time in Pillgwenlly, Newport Docks and Riverfront are top sights worth seeing.

Pillgwenlly
This was a winter morning shot. You can go here anytime of the year as no two days are the same. There's ample parking, amenities and a lake behind the castle. Good selection of wildlife. Plenty of room to explore. Not rushed.

Caldicot

Discover a medieval castle, stroll along waymarked footpaths on Caldicot Levels, or visit Dewstow House's gardens and grottoes. Enjoy convenient transport links to Newport, Cardiff, and Bristol.

Caldicot

Langstone

Uncover some of the top draws of Langstone like its restaurants and spas. If you're hoping to see more of the larger area, make a stop by Celtic Manor Resort Golf Club or Coldra Woods.

The coal mines played out and the downtown died, empty storefronts. Nice museum in the library.
