Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay
8/10 Good
"The main advantage of staying at the Portola is its convenience. The main wharf is directly behind the hotel plaza, there's a interesting museum detailing the area's history, along along the plaza, and there is a lovely walkway along the water that gets you to the aquarium and Cannery Row, about a mile away. Plus, the streets around the hotel have lots of restaurants within walking distance. Parking at the hotel is $25 a day, but you always know you'll get a spot after your drives to the surrounding areas. The stop for the free Monterey trolley is located on the street in front of the hotel. It does get full, and the first one begins at 10 am. We didn't feel like waiting, so we just walked. As for the hotel itself, the staff is helpful and responsive. We requested to be relocated to a quieter room (we were originally placed near the elevators) and the front desk moved our bags and refrigerator items while we were out for the day, and then called to confirm. Our new room card was waiting at registration when we arrived back and the old card still got us into the garage. One annoyance was that the service staff didn't automatically refill the coffee pods or replace the cups/mugs in the room. We had to call every day for this service, especially when we didn't request that our room be cleaned. Otherwise, comfy beds and bedding, free unsecured internet in the rooms and you can even request a microwave. Good family-friendly and pet-friendly hotel."

The Marina Inn on San Francisco Bay
8/10 Good
"My stay was good, but my only complaint is that the breakfast was pretty limited. The customary waffle maker was there, and other bread options, but the only meat option was eggs. No bacon, sausage or other items some hotels provide. Other than this, the hotel is very good. They give you free cookies when you check in, so that's nice. They are right next to a high-end restaurant with superb reviews, so that makes it easy for dinner options. I would stay here again. Good location and good prices."

"very coinvent to go to other places. CVS is just beside the hotel. Apple, cookies and drinks are available for guests."
Wild Palms, a JdV by Hyatt Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Our room was nice. The staff was great! Parking lot didn’t seem too have too much extra space. Breakfast was good!"
The Monterey Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"We just had one night driving through, and this was a good choice for where to stay. Very convenient to the wharf and shops downtown. The room was bigger than I had anticipated and had a working fireplace. We left early the next day so we were able to take advantage of free street parking that runs from 6 pm to 9 am. There is also a free or discounted lot nearby the staff can direct you to, you don't have to valet."
