"Arbeit macht frei" is a German phrase meaning "work makes (you) free."

This was the gate at the entry of the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp through which thousands of people of many races were marched by the Nazis to their death. I left through these gates shocked at the pure evil of what I learnt human beings were capable of.

The following excerpt from the camp commandant at his trial and is a graphical example.

- Kaindl: Until mid of 1943, prisoners were killed by shooting or hanging. For the mass exterminations, we used a special room in the infirmary. There was a height gauge and a table with an eye scope. There were also some SS wearing doctor uniforms. There was a hole at the back of the height gauge. While a SS was measuring the height of a prisoner, another one placed his gun in the hole and killed him by shooting in his neck. Behind the height gauge there was another room where we played music in order to cover the noise of the shooting.

"Der Check-in war super einfach und hat problemlos geklappt. Die Wohnung ist total ruhig gelegen und hat alles, was man so braucht. Alles war sauber und ordentlich. Die Betten sind echt bequem, nur die Decken sind vielleicht ein bisschen zu warm für die aktuelle Jahreszeit."

"Es war ein sehr nettes, gut gepflegtes Studio. Modern und sehr freundlich eingerichtet. Es ist alles da was man braucht. Es ist verkehrstechnisch super gelegen, die nächste Tram die zum zentralen Alexanderplatz führt ist nur eine Minute weg. Ideal für einen Städtetrip. Auch ein Edeka der bis Mitternacht geöffnet hat, ist um die Ecke.
