"Our room within the Public House was large enough and quaintly furnished. The bed was comfortable, but my husband found the pillows to be too soft for his comfort. The bedding smelled excessively of bleach.
On Saturday, there was an event in one of the dining rooms of the inn. The amplified voice of the speaker and the attendees’ responses easily carried into our room and were annoying.
The bakery was a nice treat. However, the complementary breakfast items included with the price of the room were very limited. Other items available for purchase from about $5 to $8 each looked delicious. The coffee and hot drinks bar was well stocked and well-tended by staff, but a pitcher of cold water would have been appreciated. Also, it was in a compact area and became crowded with 3 or more people jostling to prepare their drinks.
We ate in the tavern restaurant one evening. There is a 10% discount for hotel guests if you notify the wait staff that you are staying there. We just had a light meal of clam chowder and salad. We started with an appetizer of their homemade potato chips—they were delicious! Too bad it doesn’t come in a small and large size—it’s way too much for 2 people! The salad was fresh, with better vegetables than usually provided in a house salad (no iceberg lettuce here!) and the dressing complemented it well. My husband thought the chowder was excellent, thick and chunky, the way he likes it. I thought it was just OK, with few clams and lacking flavor."
