Best Western Carlsbad by the Sea
8/10 Good
"It was very busy the week we stayed but it was still clean and comfortable and relaxing."
Days Inn by Wyndham San Marcos
10/10 Excellent
"unsung jewel of San Marcos because it is clean, huge suites (with great beds), fantastic staff and VERY safe! I left my back windows open overnight on accident in a brand new rental pick up truck with lots of merchandise from shopping for my sons new apartment and nothing was touched! Security cameras everywhere outside. Super friendly and helpful staff, on site laundry for 4 bucks total wash/dry. No soap available. Fantastic authentic mercado store (like 7/11 with beer/wine) and restaurant with old Mexico style outdoor meat prep over flame BBQ, delicious! Nice warm pool. Has some busy traffic if your on the street side but closed window solved that. Two air conditioners - one in bdr and one in LR kept it super cool in 95 degree heat. One channel TV so download your own movies and cast. Tons of walkability. Tons of free parking. Continental bkfst is only waffles and fruit, coffee and juice however. They could use some oatmeal and yogurt/ hard boiled egg fridge. Has small fridge and microwave, no in unit coffee maker. Overall a fantastic place for the price, recommend."
Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad Beach
8/10 Good
"Stay was decent overall with location convenient to local beaches and Carlsbad Village. Nice pool and jacuzzi. Room service and housekeeping daily was attentive. Our specific room met most of our needs but unfortunately it had an unusual musty smell. The AC vent also was quite rusty. Maybe this specific Hilton is a little dated. Almost little to no hooks in the bathroom to hang towels or clothes. Thankfully there were plenty of hangers to use. Never understood why hotels charge separate for daily parking fee, as if there is an option to opt out and park elsewhere. $29 dollars seems to be a little steep for daily parking fee. Parking fee should just be built into the daily room rate."
