Cabin in Kentucky Horse Country

Experience the beauty of Bourbon County in our newly renovated log cabin, located just 30 minutes from Lexington, KY and outside of Paris. Nestled on Stoner Creek in the midst of thoroughbred country, our cabin has been featured in various magazines and on TV, including the Peter Millar fall catalog. Our cabin sits on the banks of Stoner Creek (which is a small river). It is great for canoeing, hiking, fishing and horseback riding. A beautiful screened in porch awaits for you to enjoy a morning coffee while enjoying the trickle of the spring house and sounds of nature. The stone fireplace is perfect to warm up after a day enjoying the property. Canoe on the river, fishing, hiking, horseback riding on request, trap/skeet shooting on request, etc... Also, helicopter transport from local airports can be arranged from LEX, CVG, SDF or any local general aviation airfield. We are available anytime to make your stay more comfortable and have a full time farm manger as well. We are located in the middle of thoroughbred horse country. Many Kentucky Derby winners have been bred, stood stud, or stabled within 5 miles of our property: Gallant Fox 1930 Omaha 1935 Sea Biscuit - of course the little power house never won the Derby, but was named Horse of the Year 1938 and Champion Handicap Horse. Johnstown 1939 Jet Pilot 1947 Cannonaro II 1971 Riva Ridge 1972 Gato Del Sol 1982 Swale 1984 Ferdinand 1986 Sunday Silence 1989 Thunder Gulch 1995 Fusaichi Pegasus 2000 Orb 2013 You will need a car to get around and we have free private on site parking

This lovely log cabin/cottage was better than advertised. Cozy, quaint, attention to detail, rustic but modern amenities, turn table, wood for fireplace, kayaks, hosts are great, complimentary wine, views fantastic, cool animals and grounds, location is great to horse country and much more.

We were looking for a nice quiet weekend getaway and this place is perfect. Loved the area, my wife got to pet horses, what more could you ask? The record player and record selection was a nice touch.

My fiancé and I stopped here for a night while traveling through Kentucky. Everything about our experience was great and we really loved the cabin/location. Communication and assistance was very prompt. We will absolutely stay again next time we are passing through the area.

We had the most fabulous time enjoying the beauty and quiet this cabin had to offer. The inside is First Class and so is the hospitality of the owner. Walking around the farm was great and it’s a quick drive into Paris or Lexington.

It’s not often that a property is better in person than is represented online, but that was our experience with this charming cabin in the rolling hills of Bourbon County, Kentucky. The cabin was beautifully appointed and well equipped for our five day stay. Nestled in the hills along the stinger river, we lacked foe nothing. The views were soothing and relaxing, and we were just a short drive from town and attractions in Winchester, Lexington and Berra. We plan to return.

Thank you Chet and Diane for another wonderful stay. I am relaxed from the moment I arrive until I must depart. The accommodations and hospitality are top notch - very well appointed and comfortable. Walking parts of the farm, as well as sitting outside and on the back porch looking at the river and reading are favorite past times. Nice to watch Dr. Pepper, the horses, sheep and those gorgeous sunsets! Looking forward to my next visit. Thanks to you both - as well as Topo and Chico!

Chet welcomed me to the world of Kentucky and horses in his historic log cabin. Cold nights were the perfect temperature for sitting by the fireplace and enjoying the quiet and dark of rural Kentucky. With little knowledge of horses, Chet arranged a magnificent tour of a local farm that gave me a glimpse into another world! His home is the perfect setting to explore the region.

This is one of my very favorite cabins I have every stayed in. It was so beautifully decorated and had everything I needed. Chet and the farm manager went above and beyond to make my stay perfect. The farm was so peaceful. My favorite was that amazing back porch; but, I also loved sitting by the creek and watching the sun rise, visiting the animals and late night bonfires. There are other amazing farms minutes away to tour, and the Ark Encounter is only an hour drive. Paris, Kentucky is a quaint little town. I do wish they had more restaurants to visit. I would definitely love to return!!!

If you are reading these reviews for The Cabin and debating to stay - depress submit. Whatever your intentions for a getaway, this is certainly the place to relax, unwind, enjoy a most comfortable atmosphere or go out and about in horse and bourbon country. Chett and his manager, Robert, were very attentive prior to and during our arrival. Make the getaway what you want: enjoying the peace and solitude of the cabin or taking in the beautiful horse country and various farm tours. We look forward to our next visit- hopefully in the fall. Very thankful for the treasured memories made during our stay. Kurt & Lia

I can’t say enough about this place. We will definitely be back. The views are amazing! It’s like a little bit of Ireland in Kentucky. We went to the Kentucky Horse Park and Whispering Woods for some horseback riding. I think my favorite part was being able to roam the property and be in the fields with the horses. I can’t forget about our greeter, The Llama! Believe his name is Dr. Peoper. Chet and Robert were amazing hosts!!! Kept in contact with us during our stay for all of our needs. Thanks for such an amazing visit! This property truly is heaven.

It there is a heaven on earth, it’s Augustus Hill Farm. We celebrated our 20th anniversary at the cabin. We walked, kayaked, read by the creek, listened to vinyl by the fire, watched each sunset, and breathed deeply. We talked, laughed, reminisced, pondered, and made plans for the the next 20! We’ve travelled quite a bit during marriage and both decided that our time at Augustus Hill has fed and nurtured our souls the most. We will undoubtedly return. Soon. Kate and Nate Carmel, Indiana

I hesitate to write this review as I would like to keep this gem all to myself. If you are in need of unplugging and getting quiet, this is the place. Only 40 minutes outside of Lexington but a world apart. Darling cabin next to an almost river(you'll need to ask Robert, the caretaker, if you won't to know more🤗. Horses, sheep, and a llama to visit with. Actual wood burning fireplace!! Plus all the modern conveniences! WiFi not the best but then I didn't go to stay connected. Needless to say, I highly recommend!!

I had an idea that this property would be quiet and very special. Like a little log cabin from the movies..... What I did not expect is the immersion in the spring awakening of the birds, flowers and animals on the farm. We were able to walk the long driveway each day and fell in love with the green rolling hills. I would highly recommend touring a horse farm when here (Claiborne Farm was great). But seriously, don't be so busy that you are absent from sitting on the porch, enjoying a fire with some bourbon, sleeping in darkness or the light of the moon, and being awakened by the birds. It was pure magic. A great reset at the end of our Bourbon Trail trip. Thank you for sharing this amazing cabin.

We had such a great time at this lovely cabin! We stayed four nights over Christmas and didn’t want to leave. You never know exactly what you’re going to get when you rent but this cabin exceeded our expectations. The cabin was spotless and, though hard to tell from the pictures, it is very up to date while retaining its cabin feel and charm. The cabin overlooks a creek and resides at the back of the large stunning horse farm. We enjoyed walking the property and observing the horses and sheep. We got a big kick out of watching the hysterical guard llama Dr. Pepper bounce and run around the property. The property is beautiful even in the winter and we can only imagine how pretty it would be in all the other seasons. Chet (owner) and Robert (manager) were very welcoming and attentive to our needs. They even arranged for it to snow on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! Haha! We hope to return soon!

I suppose it’s not practical to live full time in a log cabin on someone else’s picturesque bluegrass horse farm….but we DEFINITELY want to return in the fall to experience fall color and a fire in the fireplace! We LOVED this place and were so glad we were able to just spend some time hanging out in the beautifully curated cabin, sitting in the shade in adirondack chairs gazing at the creek, reading on the screened porch enjoying the sounds of birds and horses whinnying in the distance, seeing the fields fill with lightning bugs at dusk, enjoying the art, the antiques, the record player inside. We never turned on the tv…we totally unplugged and it was wonderful. Chet was a terrific host full of many recommendations - both in advance and while we were there - restaurants, tours, hikes. His suggestions were spot on. The best was the Daniel Boone National Forest, hiking to the Natural Bridge over the Red River Gorge, and having pizza afterwards at Miguel’s. Don’t miss it! Such an idyllic getaway! Can’t recommend highly enough.

From the unparalleled beauty of Kentucky’s rolling hills to the unique ability to experience a horse farm to the rest and relaxation that we don’t find anywhere else, Augustus Hill Farm holds SUCH a special place in our hearts.
