A shipwreck on the Ohio River?! On Taylor Creek, a tributary of the Ohio River in Petersburg KY. is the final resting spot of a 112 year old, 186 foot long ship. Initially a private yacht known as "The Celt", the Navy acquired the ship for patrol duty during WWI and renamed the USS Sachem. The vessel was called into duty again for WWII and renamed the USS Phenakite. Then sold to Circle Line where it circled Manhattan providing sightseeing tours of the city skyline known as the "Sightseer" and the "Circle Line V." Somewhere along the history of this vessel it was also used in an experiment by Thomas Edison and made an appearance in the Madonna video "Papa Don't Preach".

The wreck can be found on Google maps and can be accessed more or less legally by kayak. For those of you in the same boat as me, that being, no boat; the adventure is a little more "trespassy" From the Kentucky side there is a road that will take you fairly close to the wreck. Then you'll have a short trek through what is most likely private property to make it down to the water's edge. Who knows how much longer this odd piece of history will remain. So, it's worth the adventure to check out this #localgem

"We went on a last minute trip for the kids holiday break and needed two connecting rooms. I called to see how to best get this done and Natalie at the property was AMAZING! She helped me get things set up and helped us once we got there as well! She was amazing (as was everyone we interacted with), and went above and beyond to make our stay great!"

"Cleanliness of the whole facility, the elevators, the lobby, breakfast area, halls and especially the room with a kitchenette. Full size refrigerator and 2 burner cooktop, microwave and dishwasher! Only draw back was our room did not have a dining table. We had a coffee table and a desk area that sufficed, but not ideal."
