Please note: There is a bat colony in the grounds of the property.. Picturesque village location. Set in a quiet lane in the heart of this picturesque village, this spacious, detached holiday cottage is quite exceptional. As you step over the threshold you will be captivated by an impressive hall. The living room has a window seat, oak beams and French doors leading to a beautiful private garden.
North Yorkshire’s unique blend of wild moors, spectacular coast, bustling resorts, unspoilt market towns and pastoral wolds has a cultural tradition spanning centuries. An ideal base for walking and touring the North York Moors National Park and the Heritage Coast.
Take a scenic ride on the North York Moors Steam Railway, or spend days discovering the quaint coastal resorts of Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby, or the more traditional seaside town of Scarborough, all within easy reach. Step back in time with a visit to Goathland, the location for the TV series ’Heartbeat’, or indulge in wartime nostalgia at the memorable and evocative Eden Camp, near Malton. Shops 300 yards, pubs and restaurant 200 yards.

Shaws cottage

Fantastic area and very good sized property. Unfortunately tue shower downstairs (as previously submitted) leaks terribly and is only the seal needs changing. The Annex shower and bath have NO hot water! Also Annex aerial plug does not fit correctly so couldn’t watch that tv. Unfortunately stains on house carpets and sofas is down to people being irresponsible and that’s a shame. Otherwise everything was fabulous.

Bangers & Cash

The property is a good size. however the heating in the annex was not working and we had to purchase two electric heaters to keep it warm, on the third day we spoke to the maintance man who was working on the property across the road and he came over and fixed the heating for us, other than that we had an enjoiable time

We enjoyed the holiday because Thornton le Dale is a delightful village and Shaws Cottage is in an excellent position. The property was obviously quality in its time but it is rather like stepping into a family home from a past era and really should reflect a more modern holiday home. Many reviews all have similar thoughts. I suspect the owner does not see the need to “up grade” because the house will probably “let” regardless, because of its position. However there were some very obvious failings. We were met with 6 very obvious “wee” stains on the living room carpet, with no attempt to clean them. There was also a wet, fungal patch of carpet in the hall at the entrance to the shower room which was long standing and never righted. I would like to think the owner was more interested in giving good/better value for the considerable fees being asked to rent this house!

You need to talk to the manager before this property is back for rental. Until the bats are relocated this property is unsafe and uninhabitable. The council needs to be informed.
