This was our fourth or fifth time staying in the Boulder house. Every time is magical. We recommend visiting in summer or early fall (pre October) to maximize the chances of using the pool which is not heated.

My family wanted to get out of town to see the stars, planet alignment, and just escape the city for the weekend. As soon as we saw the boulder house we knew it was the place. Not only was the house extremely unique, it had so many cool little rooms and themes throughout. On top of that, the pool and jacuzzi were heated, something about swimming in 49-50 weather with a desert backdrop makes it feel like a whole new experience. Our 2 dogs loved the openness, and if you walk the property you find secret chill places. Very fun, very trippy. Definitely going back

Highly, highly recommend staying at the Boulder House! It's a one of a kind house with a great, unique character. Extremely clean, great communication from the host, and beautiful desert views! Between the hot tub, pool, hiking trails, and spacious indoors, there's really nothing left to be desired! Thanks again for a great stay :)

Ok, so there were nine of us, all adults staying at the Boulderhouse. All went well, the location was excellent, the house was everything we expected, with no suprises. We spent most of out time exploring hikes in JT, but on two of our days out of seven, we stayed at the house. During that time, we spent a lot of time by the pool and took turns preparing meals. The kitchen is well-appointed, something, in my experience, is not always the case. No complaints.

This was our third annual stay with two other families at the Boulder House. We treasure each year. It is so peaceful and remote, yet there is so much to do and so many ways to be active - and to relax and have fun in the house. The Boulder House is a one-of-a-kind place. Pro tip: bring wet suits if you want to use the pool in the fall. :)

Great place but has a lot of clutter. We did see mice in the house and bugs. The pool was an eyesore

We stayed here in December of 2022 with our family and friends including young adult and older teenage children. This house made our vacation an experience to remember. We all loved it! I would recommend arriving before dark as the drive in at night was very dark and a bit scary never having seen the road/ driveway in the day as it is a dirt road surrounded by large boulders. However, waking up to discover the property and see the sunrise from these enormous boulders was breathtaking. What a gorgeous place to take a sunrise, or sunset, stroll! The house is certainly eclectic and artsy! Not your typical rental home but one you will never forget. It took a minute to settle into the nooks and crannies of this eclectic home, but by the second day we felt comfortable in our new adventurous setting. Not being familiar with the California high desert we were a little concerned about the wildlife but were cautious on our hikes and only saw a mountain lion from the edge of the property from a pretty safe distance. It was by far one of the coolest places we have ever stayed. Would love to go back for more adventures!

The house is very appropriately called The Boulders, situated as it is surrounded by large, weathered rocks. It is rather emote, down a long dirt road, with a drive of 15 to 20 minutes to the nearest town.
Inside, the house is dense, one might say cluttered, with artwork. The paintings seem Southwestern in subject and Expressionist in style. For a short stay, it’s interesting.
We celebrated Thanksgiving at The Boulders. It is not well-suited for the preparation of large meals, however. The kitchen is quite small and lacks a dishwasher and garbage disposal unit in the sink.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The boulder-strewn acreage is fun to explore, and Pioneertown is fun to stroll.

My group had a magical time at the Boulder House. The house had so man intricate details to explore, wild art, the scenery was breathtaking.
The boulder room was especially cool, as this house is built right into the rocks. The property seems much larger in person, and the beds were super comfortable.
Checkin was very easy, and the homeowner was quick to answer my questions. Would definitely book again!

We loved being at the boulder house. All the beds were comfy and being able to scramble around on the magnificent boulders and hike around the property kept us entertained. The decor of the house is full of surprises and color.
The pool was too chilly for us to stay in beyond a dip and the hot tub was great.
Great communication with the host! We’d love to come back!

There are no words that can fully describe what the boulder house is except that it is a true immersion experience.
The setting: nestled between gigantic boulders that form a natural bowl which, for our group, became our outdoor playground. The owners have honored mother nature with subtle compliments throughout the property. Walk, explore, and you will be amazed by what you will find.
The Boulder House: Entering the home is like stepping into the artist's mind. Nooks, crannies, rooms, closets, cabinets, everywhere one looks takes you to another place or planet. Wandering through the space will destroy any sense of direction one has. The level of creativity and intention that was given is truly unbelievable.
Our entire group would like the owners know how much we appreciate the opportunity to experience you home.

We were snowed out of one night of our stay. On December 27, the owner PROMISED us IN WRITING a refund for the night that we could not get to the property due to snow. The previous guest stayed an extra night due to snow. Now the owner is ignoring my messages. I also will NEVER EVER stay at another VRBO property. They are not helping me either.

First I want to thank you for the most wonderful time I’ve had in awhile. The property was more than I could’ve anticipated and our expectations were exceeded by a million. The creativeness of this magical place inside and out was dream worthy. Every nook and cranny held another surprise, you’ve thought of it all. From art work to instruments, and seating areas to sleeping rooms I was astonished. I’m fulfilled, happy, and a better man for having stayed at your property! I have a new found love for the desert and your property is the reason why. Thank you thank you thank you.

We rented the Boulder House for a place for family to stay while attending a wedding up at Rimrock Ranch, ten minutes up the road. The age range of our house mates was from 26 to 86 and everyone had a fantastic time. The house is super well stocked in the kitchen, and with towels, blankets, and other supplies so that a fun time can be had by all. The art inside and out is fantastic, as is the landscaping. The view of the stars at night is super, and there are some nice short hikes, or other places to relax, depending on what people want to do. We'll definitely be back!

We escaped to the desert for my husband's 50th birthday and we could not have found a more perfect place. We planned to play a little on the property, then head out for some adventures during the day, but the place was so seductive we never left the grounds. There are endless bright-colored rooms, a hot tub under the stars, books, art, space, light. There are boulders to climb and lots of magic. I only wished we had brought the children and dogs.

We stayed two nights here during our sons wedding. Owner was easy going when we asked to have rehearsal dinner at the house. The meal was catered. The guests were fascinated with the home and everyone had to take the tour. Beds were very comfortable, outdoor area was amazing. There's lots of exploring to do. I don't think you'll have any regrets renting this home. We received our rental packet on time and our deposit was refunded within reasonable time.
