The Bach is a well maintained, centrally located, well equipped, compact yet spacious two bedroom cottage. It is located two streets from the Port MacDonnell foreshore in a position with minimal vehicular traffic, yet easy pedestrian access to the whole of Port MacDonnell.
The Bach is fully fenced, with ample parking for your car and boat. The property is nicely sheltered and wonderfully quiet, even though it is close to everything. A small walk away is the beach, play area, and the boats of the largest rock-lobster fleet in South Australia.
The Bach’s facilities include: • Bed 1 has a queen size bed and guest wardrobe • Bed 2 has a queen size bed + set of single bed bunks • Large kitchen/dinette with comfortable seating for 6 • Separate lounge area with large leather lounge with recliners, large television and DVD and reverse cycle air conditioner. • Separate laundry with easy, outdoor access to clothesline • Small, yet functional bathroom and toilet • Outdoor seating area in nice shaded location, nestled in the front garden, ideal for a quiet sit down to have a coffee and a read • Private entertainment area at rear with bbq facilities and a jarrah outdoor setting with generous seating for 6 people, fire pit (no firewood supplied but can be purchased from the supermarket) • Small northern facing elevated deck with seating • Off street parking for boat and 2-3 cars
What to do while staying at the Bach in Port MacDonnell The Bach is situated close to a chemist shop, supermarket, hotel, play area, museum and only a short walk to the beach and fully equipped boat ramp. Port MacDonnell’s foreshore has been recently upgraded to beautify the area and make easy, public access to the beach, jetty and the dinosaur trail.
Port MacDonnell is situated in the southern end of the Limestone Coast which is centralised around the Mount Gambier region which has many and varied attractions and facilities. The whole region is rich in history, industry, recreational activities and sight-seeing. While visiting Port MacDonnell, you can partake in the following activities; • Boating – river (Glenelg River ~25km east), protected waters or offshore • Recreational Fishing – good line fishing can be experienced either from jetty, breakwater, boat or charter. • Recreational Lobster Fishing in season • Food and Wine Trails throughout the Limestone Coast including Penola, Coonawarra, Mount Gambier and Cape Jaffa • Mount Gambier's Blue Lake and Lakes area, • Walking Trails throughout the region • Scuba diving in famous subterranean limestone caves (renowned as some of the best cave diving in Australia) • Scuba diving at Piccaninnie and Ewens Ponds (if you don't dive, then go for a beautiful walk and enjoy the abundant bird life) • Dingley Dell, the home of the famous Australian Poet Adam Lindsay Gordon • Golf – Mount Gambier Golf Course on Attamurra Road, Mount Gambier is the premier golf course in the region (5km northeast of Mount Gambier) yet Port MacDonnell Golf Course can challenge the best golfer when the wind is up • Sporting facilities throughout the region • Shopping – Extensive shopping is available in Mount Gambier
Visiting the Tourist Information Office in Port MacDonnell and/or the Lady Nelson Tourist Information Centre in Mount Gambier will make the most of your stay, or check out the info in the Bach. With so many things to do in the Limestone Coast, you’ll wish you could stay longer.
Before you leave the area you will be faced with the choice of which way to go home and what will you have time to visit on the way? If heading to Adelaide, will it be dinosaur bones and Coonawarra wine, or the Big Lobster and the Coorong National Park. Or on your way to Victoria? Will it be Nelson National Park, as it is just along the road from Port MacDonnell, the Glenelg River and the Princess Margaret Rose caves, Portland and the “Great Ocean Road” starts 200km away, in Warrnambool. Or will you head towards Hamilton and the Western Border region of Victoria which offers the Grampians and is stepped in history.
