Cool building and nice rooms. Staff very friendly and helpful. Neighborhood is a bit dangerous like much of PDX, one needs to be aware of ones surroundings.

Wonderful stay. We always stay here and the staff is more than friendly. Walking distance to lots of music venues and good places to eat. Small cons; Hard to find parking, but that’s Portland. We had a corner room which was lovely, but morning traffic and outside bustle was a bit loud. Will always stay here nonetheless.

We loved our stay at this hotel :) the room was beautiful, we loved the aesthetic. We did notice the rug under the bed was really stained but everything else was spotless clean and we were otherwise super comfortable in the space. The front desk staff is friendly and attentive. The area is convenient and close walk to a lot of cafes and restaurants, but I wouldn’t say the area is the safest. We would definitely come back and stay at the grand stark again.

My favorite parts of the stay were the staff who were friendly and casual while being very professional. It was a wonderful vibe. I really liked the charm of being in an renovated house -- the historic aspect was really nice. I found the slightly creaky floorboards charming and exactly what I wanted. I wanted to feel like I was in a friend's historic home not an overly swanky hotel. It was perfect. Thank you all. I will absolutely be coming back!

Lovely Hotel

Lovely hotel. We were very comfortable.The only reason I rated it 4 stars was due to the parking situation. If you don't want to pay $50 per night for valet parking, your only choice is street parking. We were lucky it was a Sunday night so I'm sure not as challenging as it could be.

The hotel is great - nice rooms and amenities and friendly staff. The area of town is a little tricky because there is a soup kitchen very nearby, as well as late-night bars - it can be noisy at times of day/night when sleep is preferred.

Perfect in all ways

Great location and valet parking made it easy to have a secure place for the car with all the luggage inside. Very quiet, even thought the hotel is in a buddy area. Well filled fridge, with unusual interesting drinks. Good coffee maker…but the “welcome” on a $13 artisan water bottle, made me grinch…the Italian restaurant “Amari” down stairs made the stay perfect.
