This room was actually a scary experience. The area was desolate, located across from a huge parking lot with drug addicts surrounding the building. The Uber driver would not leave until I entered because he felt I was unsafe, especially at midnight. The electric locks on both the front door and my room door did not feel secure. There was no deadbolt inside the room for extra security, so I wedged a chair under the door handle to feel safe. Considering the constant commotion outside and the potential banging on the door, I didn't sleep well and felt hypervigilant. The apartment/room was not clean, with someone else's hair on the wall of the shower. Although we couldn't have predicted this, going forward I would prefer to stay only in actual hotels, especially when travelling alone.

The room was clean. We asked for more towels and received them without hesitation. John was very responsive. We were not affected at all by the unhoused in the area. It can get a bit loud at times in the street below, but “sleep sounds” on my phone were all we needed to drown it out. We were able to walk from our place to the wharf and shopping area and never felt unsafe. Honestly it’s like most cities with a homeless population.

We could not spend the night at this location and ended up going to a local hotel at 11:30pm. The neighborhood isn’t great but the windows didn’t close all the way so you could clearly hear everything happening outside. Unless updates are made I would recommend looking into other options.

Unfortunately, my stay in Portland, ME was extremely unpleasant and left me feeling unsafe from the moment I arrived. The location itself was horrifying, with homeless individuals constantly gathered directly at the entrance. Multiple times, I had to push the door into them just to leave. On one occasion, there was a man urinating on the front door, which was disturbing and completely unacceptable.I took it upon myself to address the situation since no staff seemed to be handling it. When I politely asked them to move so we could enter and exit safely, they were incredibly rude and aggressive, telling me I had “no rights” and speaking to me in a threatening manner. This only made the environment feel even more unsafe.Security was a serious concern. The door locks did not feel secure and appeared poorly installed, which added to the anxiety given what was happening right outside the entrance.Inside the room, the heat was cranked up with no thermostat available to control it. When we contacted staff, it took a long time for anyone to respond, and even then, the temperature never seemed to improve. We ended up having to open the windows just to breathe, which meant listening to yelling, fighting, and bottles breaking throughout the night.Overall, this was a stressful and unacceptable experience. I am genuinely grateful I wasn’t staying there alone. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a safe or comfortable stay.

The property is in an area where there are a lot of vagrants/homeless people. When we pulled up to the property there must have been a dozen or more sitting in front of the building. Waiting to get fed by the local food kitchen. Drug paraphernalia littered the area and there was a smell of urine. They were there at all times of the day and yes there were arguments, singing and normal conversation throughout the night. Entering the building you walk up a narrow staircase which had not been swept/vacuumed or dusted in ages. Mail was on the floor at the entrance. The apt at first glance looked okay. However, I noticed exposed metal pipes in the bedroom, a hole in the corner of the wall. I’m sure this is not code compliant. Superficial cleaning at best. There are no dishes or cutlery. Plastic spoons, a can opener, a kurig, hot plate and 2 mugs. Ran out of hot water during shower. The mattress needs to be replaced. Parking, if you’re lucky you can park overnight alongside the wood fence immediately to the left of the building (as you face it). Several police officers were present due to an altercation. We spoke to them and were told it was not a safe area and wished us good luck. There are parking garages which are $50 a night. It is not close to the waterfront. About a 20-30 minute walk depending your age. We are seasoned travelers and we don’t expect 4star accommodation but staying at a hostel would have been better than this place.
