Located on its own peninsula, the stunning coastal village of Portofino is just over an hour by train to Genoa. This property sits right next to the village’s bay and adjoining Piazza Martiri dell’Olivetta, making it the perfect base from which to experience the very best of this stunning location on the Italian Riviera. With a variety of fine restaurants and bars to peruse as well as plentiful sites of historical cultural interest, not to mention its abundance of natural beauty, Portofino is an idyllic destination for any holiday. Swim in the warm water of the Paraggi bay, visit the artworks of the Museo del Parco or venture out to the headland’s Faro di Portofino, the lighthouse, and enjoy a well-earned cocktail overlooking the Ligurian sea at its outdoor bar.
Cristoforo Colombo International airport in Genoa is the closest airport to Portofino, with Pisa’s International Airport, Galileo Galilei, also nearby. From Genoa, Santa Margherita Ligure is accessible by train; taxis into Portofino from there cost €30, or the 82 bus runs every 20 minutes, stopping under 5 minutes’ walk from the apartment. The area is a great place to explore on foot, although a trip on the water is also not to be missed, with ferries and excursions running regularly to various spots along the Ligurian coast. The Servizio Marittimo del Tigullio connects the towns of Portofino, Rapallo, Santa Margherita Ligure and San Fruttuoso, and also offers excursions to Cinque Terre and Portovenere.
