This remote property is at the end of a 3 km gravel road, fronting a quiet ocean inlet. Enjoy tidal flats filled with oysters, bird life, and clean ocean water. Two salmon runs can be seen in the fall. The cottage is located at the edge of a garden clearing, 400' from the beach.
Inside the cottage, you'll find a glass-fronted wood stove, hot water, shower, and full kitchen, which includes sugar, honey, olive oil, salt and pepper, tea, some dry goods, as well as a coffee grinder, marimba coffee maker, pots pans and dishes. Linens, blankets, pillows, and towels are provided.
We cannot accommodate smokers.
We now have a system in place to bring wifi all the way to the cabin when needed. Cell phone signal is available also at the main house, but it is weak. There is no TV.
Firewood for heat, propane for cooking range, hot water, and fridge.
Sleeps 4 max: Queen bed in the bedroom, and a fold-out hide-a-bed in the front room.
Guests have access to the rest of the property and they can also use our canoe to paddle out into Desolation Sound.
How to find us: Drive north of Powell River on 101 Highway. After about 25 minutes, watch for a fire-station sign on the right, and mailboxes on the left of a turn-off called 'Craig Rd'. (It is 3 km. from the highway to the cottage) The highway here swings to the left and Craig Rd swings slightly to the right. Turn off here and shortly you will turn right onto 'Plummer Creek Rd'. Pretty soon it turns from the pavement into gravel and starts to go downhill and into the woods. You'll go down by an old sand pit with open gates on the sides, and then on down into thicker mature forest. Ignore all signs of 'closed road'. At the bottom, it levels out and swings left. In a few hundred yards there will be a fork, stay left and go up a rise. Then after a couple of turns, it opens up into a garden where you'll see 'Koppen - 9120'. Here is where you can park - just before the sign, there is a pullover to the right.
Once here..... Since we make our own power, we need to be mindful of electricity consumption and turn off lights and electric devices when not in use.
The road from Highway 101 to the property is rough in some spots. A regular car can travel it, but must go very slowly. We recommend stocking up on groceries in Powell River. Bring a flashlight and solid shoes. If you bring dogs, please note: Only friendly dogs can be off-leash. We have two friendly Leonbergers and there are dogs owned by neighbors. Close to our main house, please leash your dogs if they are not used to cats.
Powell River is a town of 18000 people and is a 35-minute car ride from the cottage. There is a movie theatre, gyms, restaurants, museums, galleries, shopping, golf and various activities. Hiking forest trails, and all water sports, including excellent diving, are available. Powell River has been called a 'Cultural Capitol of Canada' for its promotion of the arts, such as choral competitions and festivals.
There are ferry services to and from Powell River, and a Transit Bus from Powell River to Lund, passing by our property access. Other than that, you will need a vehicle, bike, or hiking boots.
