WARNING: Misleading Advertising and Poor Experience at Desert Wind Inn
We booked the Desert Wind Inn expecting the peaceful, wine-filled escape advertised on their website—wine tastings, evening dinners, and relaxing by the fire with a glass of merlot. Instead, we were met with cold service, subpar wine, and an oddly restrictive environment that felt more like a budget motel than a luxury retreat.
We arrived on May 29, 2025, around 12:30 PM, and were greeted with a dismissive “What do you need?”—no welcome, no warmth. When we mentioned we hadn’t received the promised check-in email, we were eventually handed a card with a code and no explanation. We later realized the room was ready, but no one told us.
We tried to enjoy a wine tasting while we waited, but the wine was mediocre, and the service was borderline hostile. The only staff member present made no effort to engage or offer guidance. We waited 45 minutes for a salad and bread, despite being the only guests.
At 3 PM, we found our room ourselves. Posted on the door was a sign that the entire property shuts down after 5 PM (7 PM on weekends). No bar, no patio, no restaurant, no access to anything—and an alarm if you try to leave. We felt trapped. The room itself was loud (next to a highway), stuffy, and smelled of exhaust.
No breakfast, no charm, no hospitality. We paid a premium for what felt like a bad roadside inn. Do not stay here if you’re looking for a wine country experience.
1/10 – would never return.
