Besides the five stars I gave for cleanliness, friendly staff, and free parking, the continental breakfast was substantial and of excellent quality. The reservation we had made at a different hotel had fallen apart and we found this one on Expedia. We arrived around 10:40 pm well after the other guests had. This is such a lovely spot. The location is convenient to food and attractions and the manager is incredibly nice and helpful. Comfortable bed, hot shower, nice garden though it stormed when I was there so I didn’t really use it. Would definitely visit Ferrara and stay at this locanda again.

This hotel stands out from all the others I've stayed at. Its six rooms beautifully merge medieval character with modern style. If you visit Northern Italy, I strongly recommend it. The owner provides a personal welcome, and the property boasts lovely fruit trees and vines. The individually tailored breakfast is outstanding. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay!

Literally one of the best places I've stayed in a lifetime of world travel! The people who run this have figured out hosting. The room is immaculate, and it is in a perfect location, but it was the extras that surprised me most. Found Principessa Pio on an Internet search of places in Ferrara. The photos looked great, but they frequently do, while the places often fail to live up to them. Not so in this case. The Pio has just a few rooms along with a restaurant in a recently renovated barn. The fit and finish are of a very high order with a minimal aesthetic throughout.
