"Looks great online but the reality was quite a disappointment. The cabin was not as well appointed as I had thought given the cost, all a bit cheap and plasticky. The floor was sort of buckled and uneven in places and as such the door was a challenge to close. The container got quite hot as the weather was so good, but there was no air conditioning and no fly screens, so opening the windows meant I had to contend with some big bugs late at night (moths and cicadas).

"A lovely restful and private retreat with the most wonderful of hosts.
Highly recommended as a great central base for exploring the glorious Golden Bay. "

"Beautiful scenic beach house, easy access to the beach. Newly built, quite clean, but there were a dozen huge annoying flies buzzing around the living room when we arrived. Also the second bedroom was locked from the inside with no way of unlocking it without a key, which we didn't have.
Otherwise, the place was perfect, nicely decorated and designed. The motion sensor lights were a great feature, as well as the huge picture window."

"The property was lovely and we had a nice stay but the description of the property is not accurate. It is no longer a working deer farm (much to the disappoint of our kids) and you can’t walk around the property and up through the forest (much to the disappointment of my kids). All in all would recommend still. "

"One of our favorite places that we stayed on our three week honeymoon in NZ. So close to Wharariki Beach and Sea gave us amazing advice of where to go and best way to get great views - and was my favorite part of New Zealand. We’re so grateful for the amazing hospitality and highly suggest yall book this place sooner rather than later! Thanks again for making our experience amazing!"

"We enjoyed it immensely. We didn't quite know what to do about rubbish at the end, so we assumed we had to leave it. Apologies if that's not the case "

Woody Mamaku Retreat . Eco stay close to sea and nature.
10/10 Excellent
"Host, along with communication was impeccable. There were a few little hiccoughs mainly because we were the first travellers of the season but nothing that couldn't be sorted. The cabin was extremely cute & clean with a great little view. The outside kitchen was well equipped with everything you would require. We were also gifted some veg & lemons from their garden.Outside shower & bath plus compostible loo all clean & tidy. Easy walking to LIgar Bay & drive to anywhere in the bay. Great for a fab off grid getaway. Thanks"
"Out of all the places we stayed during our three weeks on the South Island, Ratanui Lodge provided the best service and hospitality. Firstly, the staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much for them and the two ladies we dealt with went out of their way to give recommendations and ensure our stay was fantastic. We were on honeymoon and we were left a card and bottle of bubbly in the room which was a lovely touch, as was the robes and bottled water in the fridge.
The breakfast is probably the best hotel breakfast you’ll ever get! A la carte options but I opted for the blueberry pancakes both days.
The location is ideal, close to so many activities and in my opinion the right side of the Takaka Hill to make driving the area a much easier task (as opposed to basing yourself in Kaiteriteri). So many stunning walks and quiet beaches nearby. We loved Wainui Falls and Wharariki Beach.
Sadly the weather didn’t allow for us to go Kayaking but I’m sure this would be a great activity to do.
I really hope we can return from the UK one day and I would happily spend longer here! If we lived in NZ this could easily be a super week away.
Absolutely amazing experience."
"Overall, very good thanks. We really enjoyed the king size bed and the sound of the waves as we lay in bed. The fire was also nice to be able to relax in front of. We enjoyed the fact that been so close to the beach, the kids could come and go as they pleased. "
FAMILY FRIENDLY BEACH FRONT BEACH HOUSE WITH KAYAKS, FISHING RODS, TOYS & BOOKS
10/10 Excellent
"Fabulous location and amazing bach. It is a perfect configuration for two families. It was so well equipped with beautiful linen, appliances and great toys for the kids. The living area is spacious and light and has great indoor/outdoor flow. The outdoor shower was great for the kids coming off the beach. The host was very responsive and so generous to offer kayaks, fishing rods etc. Such a special place, I cannot recommend it highly enough. We will be back."
