"The low scores I have given no way reflect the friendliness and helpfulness of most of the staff, especially Hedi and Mesca. The location of the Vanderbilt Urbani is also excellent. The beds were super comfortable too.
The problem with this hotel is the lack of investment by the owners to keep the rooms and common areas updated and maintained.
Unfortunately when we walked into the dimly lit hotel, (not sure dark corridors are appreciated anymore) and up to our River Side room we were so disappointed. The carpet was threadbare, the walls marked and paint flaking, the dirty mastic in the tired bathroom, and the broken wardrobe door. The furniture was old and mismatched with no comfortable seating area even though the size of the room would have afforded it. There was also a nasty smell from the bathroom, and when we came back from an evening out we had ants crawling around the bathroom and bedroom floor which was dealt with quickly by the receptionist. The pool needs some maintenance as well especially on the uneven wooden surround with screws sticking out, and my friend even got a splinter.
It is such a shame as the Vanderbilt Urbani could be lovely if some money was spent on it to refurbish it to a much higher standard which considering the price is certainly necessary."
