The West Cliff area of Ramsgate is a scenic and historically rich part of this seaside town on the Kent coast. It’s known for its elevated position, offering stunning views over the English Channel and the Royal Harbour, which is the only royal-designated harbour in the UK.
What’s it like? West Cliff feels a little more tranquil and residential compared to the busier town centre or seafront. The area is lined with Victorian and Georgian townhouses, some converted into apartments, mixed with more modern homes. There's a laid-back charm, especially along the cliffside promenade, which stretches along the top of the cliffs with panoramic sea views.
Key Features: West Cliff Promenade: A long, open stretch perfect for walks, especially at sunset. Royal Esplanade: A leafy avenue with period architecture and a peaceful atmosphere. King George VI Memorial Park: A lovely green space with Italianate gardens and a little café, popular with dog walkers. Granville Theatre: A small, local theatre right by the seafront (currently closed for redevelopment). Pegwell Bay Views: At the far western end, you can glimpse the start of the more rugged coastline towards Pegwell Bay. Vibes: The whole area has a slightly faded grandeur — you can imagine how posh it must have been in its heyday — but now it feels more chilled and a bit bohemian. It’s a favourite spot for locals to escape the more touristy parts of Ramsgate.
Who would love it? Walkers and nature lovers People looking for sea views without the crowds Those into a bit of local history and architecture Anyone after a quiet, slower-paced part of Ramsgate If you're thinking of visiting or moving there, West Cliff has that coastal calm with just the right amount of character.
Ramsgate, a coastal town in Kent, England, is well connected by various transport options. Here are some common ways to travel there:
By Train From London: Direct trains run from London St Pancras International (high-speed service, about 1 hour 15 minutes) and London Victoria (around 1 hour 50 minutes). From Other Locations: Trains also connect Ramsgate to Canterbury, Ashford, Margate, and Dover via Southeastern Railway.
By Car From London, take the M2 motorway and then the A299 (Thanet Way) towards Ramsgate. The journey takes about 1 hour 45 minutes, depending on traffic. There are parking facilities in and around the town.
By Coach/Bus National Express operates coaches from London Victoria Coach Station to Ramsgate, taking around 2.5 to 3 hours. Local bus services connect Ramsgate with other Kent towns like Margate, Broadstairs, Canterbury, and Dover.
By Ferry (Nearby Ports) While Ramsgate Port does not currently have passenger ferries, you can travel via Dover (20 miles away), which offers ferry routes to Calais, France. From Dover, you can drive or take a train/bus to Ramsgate.
By Air The nearest major airport is London Gatwick (about 1.5–2 hours away by car or train). London City Airport and Heathrow are also options, with train or car connections to Ramsgate.
We are in the process of finishing the property so there will be more furniture and enhancements that are not currently pictured.

Lovely place
We had a great stay but would make the following comments:
Direction error - the road was Grange Road still when it said St Augustine’s
Parking was not easy. The road was always full and we had a park some way away.
Toilet not working - this didn’t matter too much as there are two toilets but we did not know.
Hand soap - none
Washing up liquid - none
No water glasses - only wine and champagne glasses
Chalk/triangle for the pool table would have been good.
The instructions on the heating were also not accurate.
It’s a great place though. Lovely to have the pool table and all the games and great position overlooking the sea.
