Its origins date back to the Venetian period (1201-1669) as its estimate time of built is in the late 16th-beginning of the 17th century when Crete was occupied by the Venetians. It was originally a castle house that probably belonged to a nobleman-might we say the Venetian governor.
After the occupation of Crete by the Ottomans in the year 1669, the house was inhibited by the Turks. Thus, its Venetian architecture bares elements of the Ottoman architecture.Part of the building facing to the south has been fully preserved as it was initially originated by the Venetians; also, its Venetian courtyard with the three pillars and a unique octagon artistic fountain as it is the only one saved among the three that existed on the island of Crete.
