The most picturesque hotel! The grounds are beautiful. The pool area is really relaxing, perfect for a late afternoon dip after being out exploring or at the beach. The staff were all really lovely and helpful too. Breakfast is one the biggest perks. A huge range of options with some really delicious traditional options. We stayed in the Aquila suite which was situated right at the other end of the compound where there is only one other room. This was great for us as it was really private! The majority of the rooms are either near the pool area, or to the east of the restaurant. We also had dinner at the restaurant one of the nights and can confirm it was delicious and very fresh ingredients. The only ‘con’ I would say is it is quite remote. This hotel would be perfect for people who are either looking to stay at the hotel for the majority of the day, or don’t mind doing 1+ hour car trips. It’s 1.5 hours to Chania or Heraklion, 1 hour to the beaches in the south, and 2+ hours to Agios Nikolaos. We found being in the car so much had a negative impact on our holiday overall. However, highly recommend going to Rethymno old town! Roughly 30 mins from the hotel, and some great restaurants and shops. Overall it’s a beautiful hotel, and if you don’t mind the remoteness/driving quite a bit then we would highly recommend!

There needs to be a rating above excellent as this resort was world class. From the food, rooms to the hospitality everything was top rate. The resort is beautiful and relaxing. I love being surrounded by nature in a beautiful setting. The daily breakfast spread was one of the best I ever had. Already planning my next trip back!

This is a special place in a beautiful setting. While we used it as a base to explore the area, we made also made sure to relax in our beautiful courtyard and on premises. Our highlight was a cooking course with the two chefs, who were delightful and taught us a lot about Cretan cooking. The restaurant consistently produced high quality offerings for breakfast and dinner. We loved our stay here!

A very charming small hotel. The hotel was an old olive oil producing village that fell into ruin. Each of the rooms has been renovated from small workers cottages to a charming standard. It is such a lovely, quiet spot away from the hustle and bustle. The pool is idyllic, the only criticism would be that I think it should be adults only. The ambience was somewhat spoilt when there was a couple with a baby who was crying by the pool and had the parents speak baby talk which ruined the quiet setting, the hotel is much better suited as an adults only due to its quiet nature. Food was excellent, breakfast choice is vast and evening meals were always excellent albeit on the pricier side, but we ate there every night. The hotel is a bit isolated away from the main tourist areas but that suited us down to the ground to be somewhere quiet. We would return.

Simply the most beautiful place, tucked away in the hills overlooking Rethymno. Ecofriendly and exquisitely refashioned from an old village. In-house restaurant was likewise awesome with a great selection of Cretan wines.

ABOVE AND BEYOND

ONLY spent one night here but it was very special. An abandoned Cretan village now turned into a tasteful, sophisticated hotel with opportunities for wine tastings and spa treatments if desired. EXCELLENT restaurant with great wine list. Breakfast offers a variety of choices. Staff are obliging and friendly. I have seen other posts which say the prices are high for Crete but I don'g think you can compare this level of accommodation, food and service with other hotels in Crete.

I fully recommend this place eyes closed, 1000%. The service I just can’t describe it. Whenever we needed something we got it right away. The staff were incredibly polite, attentive, welcoming. This place is very peaceful. 15 mins away driving from rethymno so if you want to be closer to everything ( restaurants, old town, etc then this place wont be your best choice. Regardless, is worth going. You can make reservations to eat at Kapsaliana hotel.

The staff was all over us and we had no privacy— people were in our backyard cleaning the pool and dealing with various maintenance issues the whole time, testing the water, cleaning buckets and tools in our space all morning, no sense of the serene and calm that there is in for instance the main pool area. So that was odd. The dinner meal was increbly bad— inexcusable in every way. As if no one had ever been to a nice restaurant in for instance Ca, which this place should feel like since the surroundings are full of gorgeous fresh produce and would easily translate to a farm stay experience. Our server gave us Cabernet when we asked for light red, and without telling us the price the most expensive. Then we asked for pasta for the kids since the table nearby had been offered, and then, after waiting over 30 minutes, the kids were served a bowl of potato foam with no pasta in sight because, we were told, the chef had a “surprise” get out of here!! It was so bad I can easily describe it as the worker meal in years, and def the worst in Greece by order of magnitude. And the price for all this food that basically tasted like eating straight chicken boullion and raw crayfish, at cat food sized portions, was almost $300. It was absolutely laughable in the end. The owner was seated nearby and never once glanced out way, though clearly our waiter was struggling and we were engaged in long back and forth with his staff. Terrible.
