Mais en dépit des investissements consentis à la Libération, les chiffres d’exploitation demeureront toujours modestes en regard des espoirs placés... la concurrence du pétrole conventionnel plus facile à exploiter, porte un coup fatal à l’extraction bourguigonne fin de décennie 1950. A sa fermeture la mine employait encore 350 ouvriers. Son dernier propriétaire était la Société des pétroles de Péchelbronn (Alsace), bien connue des automobilistes pour sa vaste gamme de lubrifiants et stations-services déclinées sous la marque « Antar »...
