"This hotel looks amazing from the pictures and it is APPARENTLY a 5 star and a Relais & Chateaux. I have stayed in plenty of 5 star hotels and Relais & Chateaux and I can tell you this is not one of them!!! I doubt any money has been invested in this hotel since the 1970s at best. The hotel room smelled musty. There was absolutely zero luxury anywhere. If you want to have a shower you have to stand holding the shower head in your hand. The WiFi is non-existent. A rural gem in quiet location

"A little gem near Auxerre. Our room was spacious, the bed comfortable and the shower provided plenty of hot water. Gerome made us feel like house guests. We had the use of the kitchen to make drinks etc. Gerome cooked for us a meal on both nights with accompanying wines. Excellent."

‘Au clos de Charny’ superb

"We didn’t stay at Le Cheval Blanc as it was closed for holidays, Hotels.com advised of a nearby chambres d’hôtes and we stayed there ‘Au clos de Charny’ which was lovely, our only problem was our room was up two flights of steep stairs. The room was spacious and clean with a large comfortable bed, a very nice shower room with a good shower. The breakfast was superb, a great choice of cheeses and charcuterie, breads, homemade jams, fresh fruit salad and yoghurt. The host is a lovely lady too."

Great stop over

"Very friendly welcome. Spotless rooms. Secure parking. Supermarket next door. 5 minute drive to a small shopping complex with a Lidl, Macdonalds, Steakhouse restaurant etc. recommend getting the breakfast here. Good choice of food that will proper set you up for the day. Definitely recommend for a stop over "
