Historic riverfront farm 700 acres, pool, private lakes, dock

Summary:
Escape to tranquility and reclaim family time at this historic farm steeped in 18th century charm, set at the mouth of Urbanna Creek on 700 rural acres on the Rappahannock River. Take a dip in the pool or a leisurely country walk. Unplug with a book on the beach or cast for bass in your two private lakes. Watch eagles and osprey soar and nest. Kayak, canoe, book a sunset cruise. Our private chef will delight you with local fare and stories. Come, celebrate togetherness at Rosegill.

Guest Access:
Guests have access to the Main House, pool, beach, dock, lakes, trails. and grounds. There are two other smaller houses on the property that are private. The caretakers Megan and Riki reside in the house to East (right side when facing house), another family resides in the house to the left. Megan and Riki are available to help guests during their stay.

Getting Around:
A car is necessary. You may also want to rent a golf cart for exploring the expansive property. More information available upon booking.

Other Things to Note:
While we have added modern amenities, Rosegill is still a very old house and requires tender loving care. Please be prepared to treat the property with great respect.

Rosegill is a working agricultural farm (corn, wheat, soy), and thus you may see or hear farm machinery and crop dusting planes. Some farm work may take place early in the morning and involve noise. Please do not touch any farm equipment you see on the property.

All three fireplaces are either non-functioning or defective, and may not be used at any time.

The property has security cameras covering the driveways, parking areas, pool, grounds and exterior of the home. There are no interior cameras.

Specific Cliff Danger Warning – There is a grassy lawn extension from the Rosegill Main House to the Rappahannock River shoreline. It’s very natural and inviting to walk toward the River to get as close as possible. Please don’t get too close, it drops off with a 30’ high cliff down to the beach all along the riverfront. It is very steep and unstable. Winter storms erode the cliff and parts collapse from time to time. Unsupervised children should not go anywhere near the top of the cliff. Extra care must be taken there and with small children.

The Main House is not the only home at Rosegill. The East Cottage, 85' East of the Main House, is occupied by the property caretakers Megan and Riki (who are available to help you if needed and whose contact information is shared upon booking). We ask all residents and guests to give privacy to those in the other houses.

The barns and other outbuildings are not included in the rental. You are welcome to walk over to those buildings and look around the outside but please do not go inside and please do not touch any farm equipment.

The swimming pool is open May 15 – September 15. It is unheated. Use of the pool is reserved exclusively for those in the Main House during rentals.

To finalize bookings, we require execution of a Rental Agreement with house rules, which will be sent upon booking.

Interaction with Guests:
We are available to help make your visit to Rosegill special. Our caretakers Megan and Riki are just a phone call away and live next door. They are ready to assist with anything you might need during your stay, and will move kayaks and canoes to the lakes or river at your request. Your host Maria is also available by phone and messaging on the platform on which you booked. Do not hesitate to reach out. We look forward to hosting you!

The pool isn’t heated.

We stayed at Rosegill in 2023 for Thanksgiving and loved it so much, we went back again this year. The property just has a wonderful feel to it. It's well cared for and the owners and caretakers do an excellent job taking care of their guests as well.

We spent the week at Rosegill with 3 generations and it was one of the most unique, memorable properties we have ever stayed at. We loved the little town of Urbanna and learned so much history around the area. Thank you for the memories!

We got married in nearby Wake, VA and Rosegill was the perfect location for out of town family to come and stay for the weekend. It was gorgeous and I wish I could have stayed longer and enjoyed the space more.

Wonderful spaces. Modern, yet vintage. It’s a great place to rest, play games, take walks and enjoy the water. I highly recommend the property as a place for a family to meet.

We stayed at Rosegill with extended family for Thanksgiving, it was more perfect than we could have imagined. Beautiful house with a great cozy feel, even though a large house. Grounds are amazing and they were so good about helping us with anything and everything. Highly recommend a stop by Urbanna Trading while there - great wine and gourmet goods.

Rosegill is the most Beautiful and Peaceful place I have ever stayed. Quiet and relaxing. We walked around the lakes and down by the river each morning and evening. The charming town of Urbanna is wonderful. We can't wait to come back next year. The history is amazing but with top of the line modern features.

From the house and pool, to the beach and lakes, to the dock and the swing out front; everything we needed to both relax and be entertained was within our reach. The owners were extremely helpful and communication was excellent from the start. They provided contacts and information for restaurants, boat charters, the much needed golf cart rental, the history of the property, and so much more. Definitely a five star vacation location and an exciting history lesson all in one.

The property is fantastic with lots to explore - even in the middle of winter! The lakes, river, golf cart rental, fire pit, swing, etc. all provided the kids with plenty of entertainment. Enhanced internet was excellent - no issues with multiple people working remotely. The historic home of course has some quirks due to its age, but it is very spacious and was very clean. We look forward to our return trip!

We gathered for my parent's 50th anniversary with ages 18 months to 80 years old - there was absolutely something for everyone. The little ones enjoyed the pool, beach, rabbit spotting and running with kite on the expansive lawn. While my parents enjoyed watching it all from the comforts of the sun room and the sun deck. Be sure to arrange naturalist tour and sunset cruise in advance - both a wonderful addition to the holiday.

We enjoyed every minute in our 5x great grandparent's home. Response time to a stove problem was almost immediate. All was resolved quickly and efficiently. We can't wait to come back to Rosegill. The house and views are breathtaking.

What an amazing opportunity to enjoy a historic home in this storied area of our country. There was so much to see and do in the area that we didn't leave much time to enjoy the house! And there's SO MUCH house and property to enjoy! I can only imagine how nice it is in the summer, when you can use the pool, and when the water in the river and lake aren't so cold. Conveniently located close to town, but still private and quiet. The owner and caretaker were both great to work with. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Our three generation family had a great stay at Rosegill. The historic property is beautiful and you are immediately struck by the huge scale of the property and house. Our communication with the innkeeper and property owner was impressive. We rented both a golf cart and a boat during our visit which I highly recommend. The fishing at the upper lake was fantastic. The house was well provisioned and local restaurants were convenient and our meals were great. Make sure to get some local seafood during your stay. Our family spent a lot of time at the swimming pool which was clean and convenient to the house.

My family had an extraordinary few days at Rosegill. It was exactly the getaway we were looking for. The beauty and elegance of the home are remarkable. The property is exquisite, providing the perfect setting for any river adventure. Above all the owners and property manager are terrific. They were helpful, welcoming, and generous in sharing this wonderful home. It is really impressive to see how they have cared for this amazing property. What incredible stewardship!

This is our 2nd year at Rosegill and we had an awesome vacation with our family again! Rosegill never disappoints! So much to do for all the different interests among our group...fishing, boating and swimming. We rented a pontoon this year and that was a huge hit...thank you for the suggestion, Martha. Thank you, Scott family, for everything!! Missed seeing Alfred this year...hopefully next time.

I’ve driven by Rosegill almost all of my life, was born in Urbanna, but never set foot on the property until our vacation. You feel like you’ve stepped back in time with the history and beauty of the home. There were 8 of us so the beautiful dining room table was perfect! Excellent updates in the kitchen with all the amenities you’ll need. We spent the evening by the bonfire, roamed and explored as much of the property as possible and slept peacefully every night. As my family said during our goodbyes, this was the “best property and best family vacation ever”! Thank you again!

My family and another family, both with young children, spent a week at Rosegill, and it was an absolutely stunning experience. The historic home was beautiful, yet comfortable, the property allowed for swimming both in the pool and on the beach, kayaking, strolls, bike riding, crabbing, the list goes on and on! The host was kind enough to drive down and introduce himself and make sure we were comfortable, and the caretaker was the kindest and most wonderful woman, making sure we had every need met. The quaint town of Urbanna offers delicious seafood, live music on the weekends, and lovely views of the harbor. We didn't want to leave!

My family recently had the great pleasure of spending a week at Rosegill and it was nothing short of magical. The house and surrounding property was perfect for our annual family getaway. The ages of our group spanned three generations and every single one of us had the best time. The home itself is spacious and well-appointed—offering a glimpse into the past, but with all the modern amenities you could ever need. The property is equally stunning. We spent our days exploring, crabbing, fishing, swimming, and relaxing. We ate every meal on the sun porch that overlooks the river. I can’t recommend Rosegill enough! It's perfect.

WOW! Rosegill surpassed our expectations. Such a beautiful home with gorgeous grounds that have been well cared for. The history of the grand home was fascinating. We enjoyed walking to the secluded beach, kayaking in the accessible lower lake and canyoning on the lovely upper lake, where we encountered turkeys, deer, osprey and bald eagles! We were able to enjoy the refreshing pool a couple days and that was such a treat! The home was very well stocked and comfortable which made our vacation all the more wonderful. The owners have an attention to detail which made the stay very relaxing. Rosegill provided a launching point for our colonial adventures, but also a retreat at the end of a busy day of sightseeing. Really, the best of both worlds. Our communication with the owner and innkeeper was always pleasant and they were very helpful with our questions. We cannot recommend this property highly enough! We look forward to visiting again!

Magnificent home!!! Acres of privacy as well as amazing & beautiful places to hangout inside & outside. Three minute walk to dock/creek. Kids spent endless hours of fun each day crabbing, fishing, swimming, kayaking & exploring - crabs 🦀 every night for dinner. Family gathered on the amazing sun porch in awe of the surrounding beauty, the wildlife and the Rapahonnick River - enjoyed all our meals on porch as well - Super!! Best was no real interest in technical devices - a family of 10 (adults & children) Truly memorable!! Look forward to a return in the future - kept everyone entertained! Can’t say enough good things - hardly ever left the property. Red Bank NJ Family

This home and property offer so much; the upstairs has the bedrooms with more open seating areas, and downstairs has several rooms with comfortable spaces for conversations, reading, games, toys TV etc. There’s an air conditioned sunroom with plenty of chairs and a large picnic style table. There are two dining rooms and a large kitchen. The swimming pool was used several times a day. We rented a golf cart to explore the property, went kayaking and fishing on the lakes, explored the beach and picked delicious blackberries. We rented a boat and used the boat barn which made that easy. And we caught crabs every day and enjoyed eating them for dinner. A great vacation spot for sure! The owner was attentive and helpful.
