"Gorgeous property, excellent restaurant, service needs work.
We stayed here for our honeymoon/anniversary. The property is gorgeous, and our suite was even nicer than expected with an unobstructed view of the ocean. Check-in was easy and the staff member showed us to our room and helped with luggage. The restaurant is really delicious (breakfast, particularly) and the service there is excellent. Of the amenities, we only used the pool, and it is lovely, with a slight view of the ocean.
On the other hand, given that it was a special occasion, I reached out a few weeks in advance to see if anything special could be arranged for the arrival. By contrast, our hotel in CDMX provided chocolates and a welcome card (on just a few days notice - we had changed hotels, and if we had reached out earlier they could have provided flowers for a fee). El Alquimista could provide nothing. Ok, fine. The room was great…until night three when we were awakened at 3:30 am by an extremely loud group in the pool (which closes at 10). They claim 24 hour security but when I walked the property at 4:15, I found no one. The noise continued until at least 5:30. When I approached the manager, she apologized, said she’d heard it too (!!!?) and offered a free cocktail. I suggested a free night or upgrade was more appropriate given the lack of sleep, and we settled on comped dinner. At checkout, the dinner had not been comped and we waited 10 minutes while they got approval. Not great."
