"La ubicación es realmente buena, a unas cuadras de la avenida principal. La habitación que tomé yo (Añil) es bastante sencilla pero con lo necesario para pasar una estancia agradable. Vale la pena destacar que esta habitación no tiene aire acondicionado, y en mayo que yo fui, el calor realmente puede ser un problema. La alberca es pequeña pero agradable para refrescarse, las habitaciones están suficientemente separadas para lograr privacidad y la vista de las habitaciones superiores es muy buena...

La Alberca Boutique Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"This review is for a three-night stay a few months ago. I had a wonderful time at this small hotel, and I found the owner and staff exceptional. I had great conversations about Mexico and the local area with Jordi, one of the owners, who was full of information and suggestions on getting around, places to dine, and things to see. The room itself was sparkling clean, and as one of the few places in the area that had air conditioning, it was a great hotel to stay in during the beginning of their hottest season. The hotel serves breakfast and lunch, and every meal I had there was delicious. The view of the ocean from the hotel is spectacular. A few things to note: First, hotel.com has this hotel as being located in Santa Maria Tonameca, but if you tell a taxi to take you to Santa Maria Tonameca (as I did, because I did not know the area), you are still about 30+ minutes away. The hotel is actually situated at the top of a hill between the beach towns of San Agustinillo and Zipolete, down an unpaved road on the ocean side. Second, the hotel does not serve dinner, so you will have to walk or catch a ride to one of the nearby beach towns to dine. The hill is steep, so you need to be in pretty good shape to walk back up after dinner; the walk takes about 20 minutes. There is no light on the road, so be prepared for that, as well. There are plenty of taxis and collectivos around, however, so this is a good alternative option for getting back to your room."

El Alquimista Yoga & Spa

"Gorgeous property, excellent restaurant, service needs work. We stayed here for our honeymoon/anniversary. The property is gorgeous, and our suite was even nicer than expected with an unobstructed view of the ocean. Check-in was easy and the staff member showed us to our room and helped with luggage. The restaurant is really delicious (breakfast, particularly) and the service there is excellent. Of the amenities, we only used the pool, and it is lovely, with a slight view of the ocean. On the other hand, given that it was a special occasion, I reached out a few weeks in advance to see if anything special could be arranged for the arrival. By contrast, our hotel in CDMX provided chocolates and a welcome card (on just a few days notice - we had changed hotels, and if we had reached out earlier they could have provided flowers for a fee). El Alquimista could provide nothing. Ok, fine. The room was great…until night three when we were awakened at 3:30 am by an extremely loud group in the pool (which closes at 10). They claim 24 hour security but when I walked the property at 4:15, I found no one. The noise continued until at least 5:30. When I approached the manager, she apologized, said she’d heard it too (!!!?) and offered a free cocktail. I suggested a free night or upgrade was more appropriate given the lack of sleep, and we settled on comped dinner. At checkout, the dinner had not been comped and we waited 10 minutes while they got approval. Not great."

"Loved our beachfront location and view! Honestly the best view from the balcony and you can hear the waves overnight. Just be careful with the strong current. The neighborhood is very quiet. The hotel restaurant wasn’t open at this time but the staff was helpful with requests. The hotel shower water felt a bit salty and our products and soaps could never lather, that’s the only thing I could say that could improve. Other than that, best view ever!"

"It should be clarified that this is a clothing-optional accommodation, however when we were there it was not a party scene and people only went nude in the pool-lounge area, at least in the off-season, or people were naked on their own balconies which are set up to be mostly quite private. It was a mix of apparent heterosexual and queer couples. The rooms are nice and the staff very attentive. The private beach is not great for swimming but it makes a nice view, and is completely apart from Zipolite beach and town, a 15 min. walk over a small hill."
