Alma Del Rio Eco-comfort on the water / La Alma

Alma del Rio is simply the perfect spot to perform the Belizean verb of 'Chillaxing' for the true nature lovers. Our Charming and natural Eco-House is Located on the Macal river only 10 min from San Ignacio by the road to the famous Pine-ridge. Immersed under huge trees, enjoy the wildlife, pristine views and a secluded river island-beach and swimming spot . Our interior is artfully hand crafted, and is equipped with all the amenities for a comfortable stay without compromising the environment.

Alma Del Rio is the winner of the Belize tourism board award for the best small accomodations or the year!! we are a unique & natural homestay acknowledged by the Belize tourism board as a 'health and safety gold standard facility'. Our house is artfully crafted, nested peacefully in the environment. Enjoy our screened lounge with a breathtaking view of the river, often visited by many colorful birds. Our place is a lot located in a small residential stretch ON the pine ridge road, with natural attractions and services close by (driving distance). We have fast wifi and the perfect view to show off to your colleagues if you are working from afar. We planted a young food forest under the huge Guanacaste trees and a small herb garden for your use. Below our house we have a secluded river island with comfortable access (in season). We have 2 houses on the property. the distance between the houses is 40' and they are separated by dense vegetation. we made all effort to make sure each house has it's privacy and yet if you are a bigger groups of people you can now rent the 2 houses :)
We offer all the amenities to enjoy our river experience: A Cooler, picnic mat, bamboo plates, beach towels, water shoes. Enjoy complimentary tropical fruit, handmade soaps, coffee, tea and drinking water . We offer a fully equipped kitchen, hot and cold shower, board games, a spacious dining table and a lounge area with a great river view. We are Kids friendly!! We do not have AC but we do have a great river breeze most of the time and by passive cooling the bedrooms stay cool. Our house is environmentally friendly: We use a solar water heater and energy efficient lighting, together with only biodegradable products and minimizing plastic use. We strive to make minimal impact on the environment.
We try to offer a true jungle experience. Mind that living in nature means we do get visits from multi-legged or flying critters inside the house. The occasional bangs from falling branches, the chirps and clicks of geckos and howler monkey cries add to the tunes to the beautiful orchestra of nature playing for us :)
*Minimum 2 nights stay.

We have 2 houses on the property, each privately nested in dense vegetation. Guests have the entire property for themselves and can access our laundry room, garden, river below and our hearts :)

We stay in San Ignacio, always available to assist and help you have the perfect stay. Anything you need - be it an extra pillow or just some good recommendations - we are here to help.

Alma del Rio is located 2 miles from Santa-Elena towards the Pine Ridge reserve. Though a sleepy road, before you reach our tranquil home, there are several great attractions - you will pass cool M farm where you can purchase fresh milk and Yogurt, Eden Valley Mayan kitchen to taste delicious locally made chocolate, 'The bluffs' bar and grill for great food, drinks and live music, Maya mountain lodge that only use organic, fresh, local produce in their menu (vegan options available too!). 2 Min drive from our house you can find a magical waterfall. In San Antonio village, we highly recommend trying the the women's co-op restaurant - the best in traditional, hearty Mayan dishes that are some of the best in Belize.

If you travel by car, it's a easy as eating a pie; We are right on the road on the way to pine-ridge. A taxi can be arranged for around $20BZ ($10USD). Buses pass regularly during the day between Santa Elena and Cristo Rey for $2BZ($1USD). Once reaching San Ignacio everything is a walking distance, but taxis are available to take you around for as low as $2BZ ($1US). We can help with arranging your transportation and booking your tours with no extra cost - let us know what you're planning!

The road to our property is currently under construction and it can get muddy after heavy rains. Our property is still accessible we just thought you should know :)

Beautiful home, good location
We loved staying at Alma del Rio. Hadas and her family were so kind and helpful and so welcoming. The home is beautiful and they’ve given a lot of attention detail. The grounds are gorgeous. She had many fruit trees and beautiful flowers everywhere and there’s a bird feeding station where you can leave fruit and watch the birds (and the occasional lizards) come to snack on it. We loved listening to the birds and geckos and watching the sun set in the evenings and we had fun using the paddle boards in the Macal river just down the hill. The only complaint was that the house was very hot and because it’s open to the outside lots of bugs get in. The location was great though - close to town but feels like you’re totally removed from it all. Thanks for a great stay!

Amazing all around!
Booking a stay at Alma del Rio is a must if you’re traveling to San Ignacio. I can’t say enough about this place. It’s secluded yet not too far from the city. The property is absolutely gorgeous and the caretakers are some of the most lovely people you’ll ever meet! Hadas and her family were out of town during our stay but still kept in great communication with us. Elmer and Dora met us at the property when we checked in and were so warm and welcoming. It was an amazing end to a long and stressful travel day! The house itself and the property are stunning. Our boys loved exploring and hanging out down by the river. A big shoutout to Elder (not to be confused with Elmer) who showed us around the property and the different plants and trees growing around us. He was kind enough to get some fresh coconuts and break them open for us for some fresh coconut water! We are looking forward to visiting again!

Belizean paradise
Just what we were hoping for minus the bugs but hey we were in a jungle. Beautiful location right on the river. Owners were great. Very nice home, very clean. It was very peaceful to sit in their screened porch area and see the river, and hear all the birds and wild life around. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Close to many cool things to see. We highly recommend this place.

Lovely Eco-lodge -nature but close to town
Loved the location. Hummingbirds and beautiful flowers everywhere. As well as fruit trees and a sly toucan. Enjoy the peace of the location with the river or take advantage of the many things to do in the area. Restaurants around are wonderful. So many attentions to detail in the cabin. You can tell attention to using a local materials or reusing materials that would’ve been thrown out. The screened in porch is amazing. Wi-Fi is very good so you can take advantage of that if you need it. We streamed the NBA playoffs (we could not abandon that even on vacation). We were a family of five with two teenagers and a preteen. There was plenty of room for all of us. And even the kids said how cool the place was. We hope to come back again soon. Oh and cannot forget the proprietors. They were warm friendly and helpful.

A one-of-a- kind Jungle Experience!
From the very beginning, the hosts at Alma Del Rio were incredible! Before arrival we received a 30+ page guide with a ton of tips and information about the local area. Hadas also assisted us in booking emergency transportation from the airport and a private tour through a Mayan cave on a canoe. The property itself is gorgeously landscaped with a wide array of tropical plants, is tucked away off the beaten path, and overlooks the river. We loved starting our days with a quick dip in the water, enjoying the sounds of the jungle. The kitchen is fully equipped and the beds were comfy, but the TRUE gems of this place are the screened-in porch and the outdoor shower. Every moment we spent at the house was spent on the porch. The view is insanely gorgeous. The river, plants, and wildlife truly make you feel immersed in the jungle. The outdoor shower was a luxurious experience and I savored every moment I spent in the space. The people at Alma Del Rio have really created something special in Cristo Rey. Some Notes: We did rent a car to get a round. You MUST go to Rio on Pools, Big Rock Falls AND Cristo Rey Falls! Cristo Rey Falls is a small swimming hole with crystal blue water just MINUTES from Alma Del Rio and is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been. It’s a MUST see.
