Populo Beach in Sao Roque, 5 minutes drive west od Ponta Delgada. I love the fact that in addition to the huge beach, that there is this cozy part of the beach for those who want to relax in the ocean without having to watch the big waves.
Populo beach in Sao Roque. 5 minutes from Ponta Delgada the Capital city of Sao Miguel. The ocean was acpected to be cold as it is the Atlantic Ocean. What an amazing day!
I took this on March 19th in the Azores Islands, Portugal. It was my 1st day there and I took a walk along the Ponta Delgada area coast. The scenery was volcanic and otherworldly! I was especially in awe when I came upon these rock formations. Especially when the sunset light started to shine on it! It really felt like a mythical coast ;). Also, as you might can tell, the wind was definitely strong there! Ponta Delgada is the capital of the Azores and is a wonderful place to stay there. It's easy to walk around the area and the architecture is beautiful. But, the coastline is also amazing! There are even breathtaking mountains behind this rock formation. One can see them in the distance. But, this spot here was about only a 30 minute walk from the main city center. An easy but fun walk to have! Just be prepared for possible rain and probable wind ;).

Fantastic room. The hotel is inside of a walled compound so it was a little confusing how to get in the first time. Beautiful grounds with Vinny the resident dog as your “greeter”.
