"This was our third stay here at Quintinha São João. It really feels like the most wonderful home away from home rather than a hotel. You're made to feel so welcome and looked after by the most dedicated and friendly staff. I can't imagine anywhere else in Funchal coming even close to this place. And it's all mostly because of the staff too. They can't do enough for you. Everyone from the reception staff to the serving staff to the cleaners and the spa staff made us once again feel so welcomed...

"Charming hotel, quite central and wibes of the 60-ts jetset so a bit dated, but clean an familiar. The wievs are the best, the negatives are the hard beds and no ac. Lovely little rooftop pool. Walk down to center or old town and take a taxi home, easy and cheep if you dont want to climb the hill up..."

"The quality of this hotel was superb, better than the 5* we stayed in previously. The spa facilities are immaculate (heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, ice bucket, four seasons shower etc.) – the only thing is it can get quite slippery due to the tiling so recommend wearing slippers/sea shoes. Breakfast was nice. We had the buffet one night and it was also good. Free shuttle service to Funchal seafront included. We plan to return! "

"We arrived at night and the room was very hot. One of the bed sheets had a blood stain... I asked the reception for a fan and that helped a little to support the heat. One bed was very bad and I could feel the springs on my back. The water had little pressure and bathroom was very old. Breakfast was basic, but fair for the price. I do not recommend this hotel for a
