Beautiful location with sea views, this property was comfortable, with every amenity that you would need, except for staff. The property is unmanned except for a lovely cleaner. The main property is quite a walk, and that property is staffed.
If you’re after a self serve kind of place, that is comfortable and beautiful right on the ocean, this is perfect. I would stay here again.
He been to the BGL twice in the last month and have enjoyed both stays. First hotel I’ve been to that has no reception or staff in general, with keys and information left on a table on the way in. No matter though, I’m there to sleep and shower and that’s about it!
It’s situated right on the beach which gives you the most incredible view out of the window and it’s close to local pubs and a few other conveniences. More importantly, it’s in an amazing place to head in to Wasdale - other than Gosforth, or staying in Wasdale itself (good luck!) it’s the best place for access, just 25 minutes away mostly along the shore of Wast Water.
Would happily stay here again.

Liked: Cleanliness
I stayed in found floor room. Looked tired and is need of decorating. Shower was adequate-plenty of hot water but not very powerful. Windows needed cleaning. Room on whole was clean although stain on duvet cover. Bed comfy. Not staff at hotel so you had to phone through to another hotel for assistance. No food available and a list of take away places for breakfast.

Door catch did not lock properly, along with he way you check in (envelope left in open porch with name and room number) did not feel safe as a solo female traveller. Curtains were old and frayed and had huge watermarks across them.
Otherwise clean and good that there was a fridge. A couple of herbal teas or hot chocolate would have been a nice touch.
Booked this hotel last minute for my family and so pleased we did. It’s an unmanned hotel so you can’t buy food or anything there (tea and coffee were provided) but we knew this before we arrived so brought some things with us. It’s in such a beautiful location, the kids were made up with the beach close by. We enjoyed an evening in the pub / beer garden within walking distance. Would love to visit again.
What a pleasant stay. The property is a short walk from the train station; go out, turn left and keep left until you see the building. The housekeeper is very kind and accommodating. The city’s ocean front is comfortable with benches and picnic tables, plus walkable beach reaches. If you enjoy watching happy dogs, this place will make your smile extreme (yes, I love dogs). I hope this helps.

Its a long way to the beach
Unfortunately, the elevator that was listed in the hotel's benefits was not in operation. And apparently for more than 6 months. I would have been happy to have the elevator.
It's a long way to the beach, there's a railroad track between the hotel and the beach, so first you have to walk a long way.
Booked as just an evening stay after travelling back from Scotland, keys placed in an envelope at the door, went to the room which looked fine just for one night, however the window wouldn't close, paint peeling from the ceiling, cobwebs hanging from every corner, the room had not been cleaned very well if at all, bed was very small for a double so I guess it was a queen bed? A very tired looking room which was ok for one night.
Very quiet, great breakfast, comfy bed, big tv, sky channels,

Nice guest house rather than hotel
Actually where we stayed in the village of Seascale was a guest housed that is an annex of the main hotel elsewhere in the village. Our requirements were free parking, wifi and breakfast within Cumbria. Hadn't read the details when picking this hotel so missed the fact that reception was unmanned an envelope with our room key and a letter explaining diner and breakfast facilities was left for us. We noticed the presence of CCTV cameras, nevertheless it was a little weird as we seemed to be the only guests present!
Sure enough someone was there to provide a cooked breakfast if required (continental breakfast other choice) the following morning. The same person was there the following morning and we settled up before checking out.
Stayed in double room. Satellite tv was so-so with only free channels available. Couldn't get second tv to work. Wifi coverage was very good and just as well as we could not get a phone signal where we were. Ensuite bathroom had shower only but was modern and clean. Room décor quite basic but fairly clean and acceptable. Double bed fairly comfy, however the sofabed not the most comfortable if I am being honest.
A plus point is that the hotel was handily placed for the beach and local co-op.
The hairdryer did not work
Some sockets were not ‘live’
There were at least two, unsafe, gang-extensions
The hot water took over five minutes to reach the tap or shower
There were no shelves in the bathroom
There was one small towel rail
The iron is impossibly complicated to use
Someone unlocked our room door and began to enter on our third morning, before 8 am
There was no hook on the back of the bathroom door
We were provided with only one small bottle of shower gel over three days
The breakfast was good
