Do not venture into the villages without a guide or with someone local. It’s best to be with someone who knows the people and can escort you around.

I travel for work to the Navajo reservation, first time to Second Mesa Hopi reservation. Both areas are economically depressed and it shows in housing and services available. 2nd Mesa is very pretty, wide open and looks very different from Navajo Res

Staff were friendly and helpful. Small museum with information about Hopi history and culture - Anna, the museum docent, was pleasant and answered questions about the various towns of 1st,2nd and 3rd mesas. You need a Hopi guide to visit the various.
