Spacious room and a great view of the ocean. Friendly staff. Building itself is dated but rooms have been renovated and it was comfortable. Good breakfast buffet but not cheap. There is also a private beach you can walk to and swim.

As an American, the beds were extremely uncomfortable and the rooms were very hot. We ended up leaving early because of how uncomfortable the beds and heat were. The hotel and staff were very nice, friendly, and helpful, and amazing amenities as a family traveling with a 6 month old and 2 year old

On the whole it's a decent place if you want a quiet escape with a beach that's ideal for surfing. It also has a free shuttle bus that does runs in amd out of Shimoda. However, the hotel is quite old and has lots of leaks spreading into the corridors outside the room. The mani buffet for breakfast is good but v expensive for what is available, as is the lunch and dinner options so id recommend not eating there unless you're happy to pay the premium. On check out there is a small tax fee to pay which no one told us about and apparently routine in this area, not a nice surprise either way and although not expensive it was still frustrating. The 'pool' area was left wanting and also suffering from stagnant water issues but most of it was clean if a little old. The staff are kind as you would expect and the room was enough so we didn't have much issue but we certainly wouldnt stay there again if we came back to Izu-Shimoda.

The staff at the reception desk were amazing, friendly, and helpful. They helped with luggage and getting a cab when needed. I would like to see the gift shop, restaurant and coffee shop open for longer hours. Coffee and drinks not available till 10 am. The pool would have been a nice touch too but the hours open were only on the weekend. Rooms were okay, a bit outdated and smelled not so fresh.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! Do yourself a favour and book literally anywhere else. Dirty glasses with lipstick stains, rusty pipework, dead flies all over windows, rusty kettle socket - total fire hazard. Pictures do not look anything like the actual hotel. Complained to management after paying over 3k for four nights, how they can charge even close to that amount is absolutely insane. The area isn’t great not a lot to do around no restaurants really. Only thing to do nearby is a dolphin show which I would never fund, total animal abuse. The only positive is the staff, they were lovely. If you’re from the UK you’ll understand me when I say this reminds me of a Butlins. One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in, we left after one night! Hotel management acknowledged our complaint email as have Expedia but nothing has been done to compensate the nights we did not stay at this quite honestly terrible hotel!

It’s a lovely hotel on a beautiful beach. The breakfast buffet is very delicious and the ocean view from the onsen was magnificent. The staff is incredibly friendly.

The beach access and staff were amazing. However, we were originally put in a first floor suite and although the view was great, the room had extensive water damage. We spent one night and morning feeling pretty awful and not wanting to touch anything. It was next to the onsen building, which looks very run down (although the onsen itself is beautiful). The staff did change our room to an upper floor with an even better view, which was very clean and not moldy. Amazing beach aside, the location was a little more challenging than we imagined- not a fault of the hotel- there just wasn't much around, few dining options, etc. The hotel shuttle did help us get to town regularly. We did not dine at the hotel because it required reservations and times that worked for our family were taken already. It was handy to be able to rent a surfboard from the hotel store. We would have had a great stay, had it not been for the moldy room the first night.

Shimoda prince hotel.

We recently stayed at the Shimoda Prince hotel. The staff is excellent, the hotel is showing its age, and a bit run down. I was disappointed they charged for almost everything including beach towels. The beach was nice.

This place is right on the shirahama central beach with amazing views. Beach can be accessed from the ground floor. They had shower facilities to clean up. Staff were very friendly and supportive. Loved our stay.

My stay in Prince Shimoda

The ocean view from our room is great as it is next to the beach. The hotel has a simple onsen with a great day view. However, the hotel is far from any restaurants and a car is a necessity.
