would strongly discourage anyone—especially families—from staying at Hotel Le Chat Noir. The room itself was disappointing, but the biggest issue was the location. The hotel is surrounded by sex shops, adult stores, strip clubs, and other explicit businesses. We were traveling with our children and had no idea we would be staying in what is essentially the heart of Pigalle’s adult entertainment district. Walking outside with kids was incredibly uncomfortable and not at all the family-friendly Paris experience we had hoped for. The nature of the neighborhood is well known, but we did not feel the hotel made that clear before booking, instead it said it was in the heart of mortmare neighborhood. To make matters worse, our room had / terrible mold smell- giving it a damp, dirty feeling. We were so uncomfortable that we ended up losing nearly €2,000 by booking another hotel just to get out of there. That was an expensive lesson, but staying wasn’t worth it. This hotel may work for travelers specifically looking to stay in the Pigalle nightlife district, but if you’re visiting Paris with children or expecting a clean, comfortable 4-star experience, I strongly recommend staying elsewhere. I wish I had read more carefully about the neighborhood before booking. Hopefully this review helps another family avoid making the same costly mistake.

The Hotel Beaugency is my go-to and quite affordable accommodation in the 7th Arrondissement of Paris. The location is right at the doorstep of the wonderful Rue Cler. Going straight out the front door and across Rue Duvivier you are on Rue du Champ de Mars which leads straight to the park at Champ de Mars and the Eiffel Tower. The hotel is a brief walk to the trains at Pont de l’Alma to take you to Versailles and also a comfortable walk the Hotel des Invalides, the Musee de l’Armee, the Tombeau de Napoleon ler and the Musee Rodin. We have stayed at Hotel Beaugency several times over the past few years for our holidays and as our Paris stop as part of our comings and goings between Paris and Geneva. We have seen the owners make numerous upgrades to the rooms and amenities over time such as Lavazza coffee makers and safes with programmable lock for your laptops and devices when you are out of the room and as many power outlets as one could possibly need to operate and charge devices. The was a heat wave this summer in Paris and the room I recently stayed in had air conditioning. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are clean. The are many many cafes and restaurants of all genres all around the hotel and a lovely Boulanger at Maison Julien with excellent baking and espressso to start your day if you like that is located just outside the hotel’s front doors on Rue Cler. Hotel Beaugency also offers a breakfast. Bon voyage..
