The Skipton Hotel was well appointed for a short towpath walk to Skipton centre. It had a lovely view, staff were generally helpful, and breakfast was fine. Our room though (a studio on floor 5) was baking hot and when we complained about this we got given an extra fan. It wasn't just that the weather was hot (it was) but the generators and other plant equipment sent heat through the floor into the room making it sauna like. We feel we should have asked to be moved but didn't want to complain when the hotel was so full but we felt that the stay within our room made it impossible to enjoy the stay. We should have asked for a partial refund - repent at leisure, eh?

Clearly there’s a leadership issue at this hotel. The Staff were nice but clearly not well trained or motivated. Long check in line with no other staff available or skilled to attend the other checkin counter. An elderly couple needed help with bags but none of the Staff around offered. Same for us when leaving no one helped. There seems to be around 100 doors along each corridor which require manual open … why ? Bad for clients with bags but poor cleaning staff. Old smelly carpets. Dirty shower. All this and they insisted on charging for an early checkin when we had 17 booked into their restaurant. Unfortunately it’s all Skipton has in terms of large hotel and guests have to get on with the inconveniences. Who is in charge and why are they never visible ?!?

We stayed for 3 nights to explore Skipton and the Dales. The hotel is situated a distance from Skipton centre. It is a pleasant half hour walk along the canal towpath into town or a 5 min drive. The hotel is large, with carpark and with various room styles. It fronts onto a busy road so best to ask for a back facing room with a window view. Our room was on the 5th floor up in the eaves, with a velux window, no view, and was very tired and outdated especially the 90s style, grey bathroom. Website photos can be deceiving. The conservatory restaurant was very nice, overlooking the canal and passing barges,, but quality of evening food lacking, though breakfast was better with plenty of choice. There is a good sized bar area, though staff in short supply. Didn't try the gym or pool. Won't be going back.

Unfortunately this stay was not enjoyable at all. The place overall is very run down, the bed is an old springy bed with huge "roll together" and so soft you end up touching the base. The air conditioning didn't work, the windows hardly open at all due to security reasons and the room was stifling hot and very stuffy which resulted in next to no sleep. She would have been stunning in her day, but it's long, long gone. Not worth the money.

Large free car park. Staff were super friendly and soon sorted out some room problems. Dining area has been recently refurbished with a pleasant outlook over the canal. Corridor areas and the rooms we stayed in, although clean, large and functional seemed a bit tired and in need of a refurb. Powerful shower. Lift doesn't go to all floors. Doesn't seem to have Air conditioning. Breakfast was fine. Good location about 1 mile from Skipton town centre. Bus stop opposite takes you into Skipton if you don't want to drive.

Location perfect for our group get together - 30 mins stroll into Skipton. Breakfast good however staff need more training in replenishment of items Dinner OK - very expensive for what it was as were drinks. Service not great as order taken incorrectly meaning one of our group got his meal later than the rest - they didn't charge him for it. Reception staff very good & helpful

The Skipton needs updating. The shower curtain rail was held together with duct tape and falling off the wall. The bath traps would not turn off without serious effort.

Excellent staff, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and efficient-particularly the reception staff. We were very fortunate to be given an upgrade-very exciting! This meant a canal view room which was lovely, much quieter than the front of the building. The hotel appears to be undergoing a programme of refurbishment and the dining room is much improved. Unfortunately the same could not be said of the breakfast. It was disappointing that there was only sliced bread available. The slices of cheese were hard and curled and looked most unappetising. The hotel is set in lovely surroundings and the walk along the canal into Skipton is a pretty one, where we saw jumping lambs, ducks, geese, swans and an otter. We always enjoy our stays here.

Hotel is OK. A bit tired in parts though. I paid for a room with a canal view which I could see - if I looked beyond the large number of big bins full of dirty sheets and some car parking spaces. I also asked for a quiet room when I made my booking, again when I completed their online check in and also when I arrived at the hotel. I was given room 308 which has a door to another room. Through this door I could hear everything that was happening next door including the gentleman snoring and coughing, it was like he was in my room! I would not book here again. The corridors are a bit tired and incredibly hot. Car park is large and free for guests. View in the distance beyond the canal is attractive. Staff were all friendly. Didn't think it was value for money though because of the noise from the next door room which resulted in a very poor night's sleep.
