"Big mistake. It was the only option due to graduation ceremonies causing all hotels to be booked solid, except for the motels where you park in front of your room. I’m not sure if it was roaches or bedbugs, but I took a video of one crawling on the top of my wife’s sheet while she was sleeping. I still haven’t told her, but got her up immediately. No light in the bathroom, housekeeping attempted to enter the room at 7:30 AM unannounced, and the list goes on. I’ve been a business traveler most of my life and I’ve always heard about bedbugs, but never met one until this morning. I spoke to Housekeeping on the way out and they apologized profusely for attempting to enter my room. I believe them when they told me that it was a mistake. When I checked in around 9 PM last night, the clerk at the front desk was dealing with about five hostile clients for various reasons. I felt really bad for him, but he kept his composure. As a lifelong retailer myself, this is clearly a management problem, not a staff problem, so I tipped the front desk associate $20 simply for keeping his cool. He wasn’t his fault that the room keys only worked about 25% of the time, and that there’s apparently an inadequate budget for any repairs. Unless there’s a sign outside that says, “under new management“ I would avoid this hotel like the plague. Yes, I understand that this is a budget-friendly hotel, but bedbugs are unacceptable at any price, at least in my opinion."
