Awesome stay

It was everything we expected and more! Kitchen was fully stocked with everything a group would need. Beds were very comfortable. Linens and towels first class. View was awesome! So peaceful! Take a walk down the trail to the river, so worth it! Jason is quick to respond.Would definitely rent again!

Family holiday

We had a fabulous time at the ranch. It was my parents 50th wedding anniversary and the place was perfect. Something for everyone to do and space for all of us. We loved the hot tub, sauna and the the barn for movies. Jason was a great host and the caretakers on the property really took care of any needs we had. The only thing I would’ve done different is stayed longer!

Amazing place

Great place to stay. Fabulous views. Well distributed house. Many amenities including amazing wood furnishings. We had a great time overall including fishing at the Elk River.

Beautiful and perfect setting for a retreat

The bugling elk and the show they put on with the back drop of fall leaves and mountains was breath taking. Everything you could possibly need is provided for and more. Enjoyed the hot tub under an almost full moon and brisk air. Cannot wait to return. Very glad Jason shares this property for others to enjoy.

Stunning Property

We had an absolutely wonderful time staying here for our family Christmas. The weather was cold, but we had so much space in the lodge that we were never crowed and always cozy with the wood stove. The weather didn't stop us from going outside to explore. It was magical to sit in the hot tub with the snow falling. It's a perfect location if you have a large group. Thanks for sharing this beautiful property.

Week of peace and solitude

Our family came up to reconnect with the surrounding beauty and solitude of what we thought this setting could offer us. We were not disappointed in the least amount and wish our stay could have lasted much much longer. It was more peaceful and beautiful than what we could have imagined. Thank you for letting us experience this wonderful setting and wonderful property with our family. We also appreciated the recommendations on the surrounding activities and guide services you suggested. They were all wonderful people and a wonderful time.

The best place to stay in BC

Who could ask for more! The best views I have ever had at a VRBO property. A trout stream in the back yard, and mountains every way I looked. No crowds and yet town was five minutes away. Jason made all the stay arrangements easy, and Bill the manager took care of all our questions at the property. Close to Waterton, and cutthroats all around. Fabulous Retreat and Vacation Place!

Our group of 8 enjoyed excellent biking, hiking, fishing, and general relaxation opportunities. The facilities of the ranch house were excellent in terms of spaciousness, cleanliness, art, kitchen facilities, and views of the mountains (on both sides!!). Easy access to the Elk River and lots of wildlife crossing the expansive fields one views from the house and the decks. The living room area was a great place to relax and tell group stories (could be some fishing lies...!) The dining area handled our whole group at once with ease for group dining. The modern washer and dryer were greatly appreciated!! The hot tub was very clean and spotless with easy controls and great views! The craftsman detail of the woodworking and art were superb and really added to our enjoyment of just being in the ranch house. The property manager was readily available and a joy to converse with about the area. Overall our experience was wonderful and far exceeded our expectations.

The Most Magical Place

My family has described the Elk River Lodge as the most magical place they have ever been. From ages 6-71, there was something for everyone. Upon our arrival we were greeted by stunning scenery and a herd of elk up on the hill. The house is so welcoming and the pictures do not do it justice. It is clear that Jason has put so much thought into the home and property. The house was well stocked, has plenty of space for everyone, and the bedrooms were very spacious. The outdoor space provided a great gathering place for our family—we enjoyed our meals out on the deck and bonfires after. My children (ages 6, 11, and 14) loved walking to the river and each time we walked, there was wildlife along the way. The river provides hours of entertainment, and my oldest son was so excited to catch his first cutthroat trout. After the day would wind down, we headed to the movie theater in the barn, but not before we would stop to hang with the horses (a frequent stop with all my kids during our time). Bill, the property manager, is so personable and goes out of his way to make sure your stay is everything you hoped it would be. My family hopes to return to Elk River Lodge in the future to recapture the magic.

Excellent location and property!

Our three-generation family group of eight enjoyed six days at this incredible Sparwood ranch. We spent months preparing and planning for this trip. Pictures don't capture the beauty of the property! It was well stocked and maintained. While the ranch feels remote and private, it was only fifteen minutes to get groceries and gas for cars. All of the furnishings and finishes exceeded expectations! It was clear that the host put a lot of thought into all of the property details with the guests in mind. If you plan to go to Lake Louise, consider the new Park and Ride shuttle. We went to this area before arriving at the ranch, but it can also be a day trip from Sparwood. We avoided driving after dark due to wildlife crossing the roads, so keep that in mind. We saw elk and deer at the ranch and bears at the national parks. The horses at the ranch are very friendly. We fed them carrots over the fence. Great family pics! And, a few games of corn hole are always fun with a group. Our stay was in late June and the weather was perfect. The grill was 'top of the line' (and lighted). We enjoyed using it several times. Be sure to walk over to the river, too. Just beautiful! We highly recommend this property and host. Our family vacation could not have been more perfect!

Great family getaway!

We wanted to get away for Thanksgiving weekend with another family and were looking for a place large enough to accommodate both families. We found the perfect spot! We were a group of 4 adults and 6 kids and there was plenty of room for everybody and then some. Jason (owner) was a pleasure to deal with. He answered all our inquiries promptly. I asked if they had a TV to entertain the kids while we prepared Thanksgiving dinner. They did not.... but he arranged for the caretaker to go out and purchase one and have it all set up upon our arrival!! What amazing service. They even had a kids DVD playing for the kids to watch while we got unpacked. The property itself is beautiful. You really feel like you are getting away from it all. The river is a short 5-10 minute scenic walk away. Our kids really enjoyed the hot tub and the fire pit. The also loved playing in the hayloft! Most of the furniture is handcrafted by Bill, and it is amazing. The living room is comfortable and cozy and we really enjoyed the wood stove. The kitchen is well equipped; we were easily able to prepare a Thanksgiving feast! And the beautiful handcrafted wooden table was great place to have a Thanksgiving meal. It was easily able to fit our large group. The caretakers of the property (Bill and his wife and Clayton) were so nice to deal with. They all went above and beyond to ensure we had a great trip. Clayton let us tag along while he fed the horses one morning (even though he really needed to get to work, he was so patient with our kids). Bill and his wife were nice enough to take one of the families on a long trail ride on the horses. The kids were in heaven!!! They have not stopped talking about it since we returned! All in all, we had a fantastic weekend. We are hoping to make it a Thanksgiving tradition!

fly fishing trip

Fabulous spot for a family vacation

We had a great time at Elk Valley Ranch. The house has more than enough room for all of us - comfortable beds, big living spaces and all the amenities you could think of. The real magic is in the location - horses to feed and get to know, creek and pond to play in, hot tub and sauna, river a short walk away - and movie night in the theatre in the barn. Nestled in the mountains - it was a wonderful get away. Thank you to Justin, Scruffy, Dixie and Roxy!

Perfect location for a retreat

We hosted a digital detox yoga retreat and couldn’t have chosen a better location! This place has everything and more to feel connected to nature and company and to feel indulged. The views from every window is like a painting. The craftsmanship throughout the home is breathtaking. The barn was perfect to practice yoga and visit. All of the details were considered. Wood chopped, kindling, matches so we could enjoy the cracking fire on cool days. Luxurious towels for bath and hot tub. The sauna was loved by all. The wildlife…wow We will without a doubt be staying again. Thank you Ginette

Don't miss this experience!

First things first: Jason is the consummate VRBO host! We visited immediately following the summer wildfires which didn't affect the local Sparwood area greatly, but we had to cancel two other of our rentals for this trip that were further west due to evacuations in those areas. Jason is knowledgable and was more than willing to take the time to discuss and recommend new areas and specific rentals he would consider. We were relieved to have his advice. His suggestions were outstanding... As to our stay at his ranch...WOW!...delightful in so many ways. The picture window in the kitchen area is superb. We watched for and saw elk frequently. All the other amenities are great...read other reviews for detail. This trip to Western Canada was in celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary. I wanted it to be our best vacation ever...and it was! Jason's ranch was the last stop on our 5-stop trip and provided the perfect setting and ending. Thank you so very much, Jason, for providing us with the wonderful experience and all the time you spent we me in the planning stage. You are an extraordinary host!

Canadian Rockies Getaway

This is a little slice of heaven situated along the Elk River with with 360 degree views of the majestic Canadian Rockies. House is perfect for families and the barn has a movie theater. The hot tub and sauna are added bonuses with amazing views. Little creek near the house was fun for the kids to float around in and everyone enjoyed fishing for trout in the Elk River. The horses on property were sweet and friendly. You can spend days exploring the massive property. Herds of elk came through in the morning and evening. You can spend hours just admiring the nature, wildlife and relaxing to the sounds of the babbling brook. Our family loved it here and plan to make this a regular visit. The lovely town of Fernie is only 30 min away where there are restaurants, shops and all outdoor guided activities. We went white water rafting and horseback riding. Sparwood is only 10 min away where there is a grocery store for any needs. Great for Relaxing and family bonding!
