Blackpool Sands Looking east towards the end of this curved bay. One of the most photographed bays on the south coast of Devon, the steeply sloping beach is actually made up of fine shingle. This makes for very strenuous walking, especially when loaded up with beach paraphernalia. No sand in the sandwiches though! And the water was crystal clear on this perfect summer Sunday afternoon.

Evening on Blackpool Sands. Looking westwards across the bay with the dead calm sea reflecting the early evening sun. The main road to Kingsbridge follows the coast here and can just be made out through the plume of smoke. The land on the horizon is at the other end of Start Bay with Start point just out of shot on the left, see 574819.

A grand hotel with lovely views however whilst the public areas are rather splendid, some areas do look a little tired and in need of updating. This didn't detract from our stay though. Plentiful and varied breakfast and a great location
