he Via Francigena is the common name of an ancient road and pilgrim route running from France to Rome, though it is usually considered to have its starting point much further away, in the English cathedral city of Canterbury. As such, the route passes through England, France, Switzerland and Italy. The route was known in Italy as the "Via Francigena" ("the road that comes from France") or the "Via Romea Francigena" ("the road to Rome that comes from France"). In mediaeval times it was an important road and pilgrimage route for those wishing to visit the Holy See and the tombs of the apostles Peter and Paul.

"Accogliente, paesaggio super, pulita, ottima per la prossima volta. Sinceramente speravo di pagare di meno a persona. Di solito frequento case dove non si paga a persona ma a soggiorno completo. Quindi se la casa è da 4-5 posti costa tot soldi. Se nel caso siamo in 2 dobbiamo sopperire ai posti mancanti. Grazie alla prossima"

"There are no words for the service and comfort at Athena. The staff at the front desk as well as restaurant and bar went above and beyond to anticipate our every need. The hotel offers the hospitality of a private inn with all the amenities of a four star hotel. A special shout out to the team at the front desk. Leaving them was like leaving dear friends. "Unbelievable hotel. The grounds are beautiful and amenities are some of the best around. The breakfast is the best we’ve ever had at any hotel. The spa access was also a very nice added touch. Cleaning service and staff were outstanding, the best we’ve ever received. Would 100% come back and recommend. "

Grand Hotel Continental Siena – Starhotels Collezione

"Beautiful hotel in an excellent location, right in the centre of Siena. Staff were extremely efficient and helpful, room was lovely with view of the square, comfortable bed and good amenities. It’s worth bearing in mind that the rooms overlooking the street are a bit noisy from people passing by below (not the hotel’s fault) so I recommend earplugs for light sleepers. "
